Positions Open For April 2020 Elections

Issue Date: November 27, 2019

Terms on all county boards, school boards, city councils, village boards and 5-member town boards, as well as many judicial posts in Wisconsin expire in April of 2020 and will be filled at elections on Tuesday, April 7, which is also the date of Wisconsin's presidential preference primary election. If a primary election for state and local offices is required it will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Candidates interested in being elected to one of those positions can begin circulating nomination papers on Sunday, Dec. 1, and must have them filed in the appropriate offices with the proper number of signatures and campaign registration statements by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to be listed on ballots for the Tuesday, April 7 elections.

In Marinette County all 30 County Board seats are to be filled in the April 7 elections, and in Oconto County all 31 County Board positions will be filled. There is no incumbent for the Marinette County Board District 16 seat representing town of Grover, due to the recent resignation of Supervisor David Zahn.

Also to be filled is the Circuit Court Branch 1 Judge position currently held by Judge David Miron, who has announced his intentions to retire when his current 6-year term ends. Announced candidates so far are Atty. Mike Perry and Jane M. Kopish Sequin, who currently holds the position of Marinette County Court Commissioner and Register in Probate.

Also on April 7 voters all across Wisconsin will select a person for the Justice of Supreme Court position held by Justice Daniel Kelly, which expires on July 31.

Judicial office candidates are to file nomination papers with the Wisconsin Elections Commission. County Supervisor and Municipal Judge candidates are to file with the Marinette County Clerk by the Tuesday, Jan. 7 deadline. Nomination papers can be obtained from the County Clerk's office or in most cases from the appropriate jurisdiction office.

The current 4-year term of Municipal Judge Cindy Sutek for the City of Peshtigo and towns of Grover, Peshtigo and Porterfield expires on April 30 and is to be filled at the April 7 elections.

Municipal and school board positions to be filled include:
