Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Vehicle On Oconto County S

Chris Tyni, 63, of Oconto, died at the scene at about 4:58 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 after being struck from behind by a vehicle while he was walking along County S north of County N in the Town of Oconto.
According to Oconto County Sheriff's Office, when deputies and first responders arrived it was determined that a van, operated by a 58-year-old male from Oconto, had struck and killed Tyni. Name of the driver has not been released. The van had been traveling north.
The matter remains under investigation by the Oconto County Sheriff's Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner's Office. The Oconto County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Oconto Police Department, Oconto Fire Department, Oconto County Highway Department and the Brown County Medical Examiner's Office.
Tyni, known by some as "Eddy," was born in 1956 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., but was raised in Gwinn, Mich., where he graduated in 1974. Days after graduation he started working at CCI and continued there for the next 35 years. He later moved to Oconto.
A funeral Mass was held on Monday, Dec. 2, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery in the spring of 2020.
