Gerhardt "Gary" Edward Thoreson, age 82, of Crivitz, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 with his loving wife by his side.
He was born to the late Arthur and Geraldine Thoreson on December 29, 1937. He attended Union Grove High School until he joined the United States Navy.
After the Navy, Gary was a heavy machine operator and mechanic for over 40 years, the last 20 years at Crivitz Redi Mix. He married the love of his life, Hazel Jeanne Williams on August 18, 1956 in Union Grove.
In 1973 the family moved to Crivitz and purchased a dairy farm. Gary had a passion for wood carving, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Hazel; two daughters, Janice (Jerry) Samsa and Joanne (Mark) Glander; three sons, Dean (Jennifer) Thoreson, Randy (Sara) Thoreson and Kurt (Sharon) Thoreson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith (Judy) Thoreson; three sisters, Elaine Welsh, Amy (Corky) Albrecht and Debbie (Jay) Bourassa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Andrea Samsa; one sister, Carol DeKeyser and two brothers-in-law, Dan DeKeyser and Roger Welsh.
The family greeted relatives and friends at the Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home in Crivitz on Saturday, February 1 from 2-4 PM. The service was at 4 PM with Pastor David Pleuss officiating. Gary will be laid to rest at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Middle Inlet at a later date.
