Tackmier & Lund Picked For Packerlands Top Hoops Teams

Issue Date: March 25, 2020

Peshtigo Bulldogs senior Cade Tackmier finished his career with a strong season and was rewarded with a spot on the Packerland first team all-conference team.

Tackmier finished his senior season with 17.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game, which earned him some recognition from the rest of the area's coaches in addition to some really strong praise from Peshtigo coach Nate Motkowski.

"Cade is one of the most skilled and talented players I have ever been blessed to work with and coach," Motkowski said. "He has an extremely high basketball IQ that allows him to control every aspect of the game."

Despite leading the team in nearly every statistic over the course of the season, including points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and free throw percentage, the stats don't tell the whole story, Motkowski said.

"Even as a walking stat line, Cade truly cared about simply winning games as a team and found ways to incorporate his teammates which led to more overall wins for our program," Motkowski said. "He had some extremely impressive games this season - games with over 30 points, triple double nights, monster dunks, etc. - that helped him stand out as one of the best players in northeastern Wisconsin."

Teammates Breyden Demmith, a senior, and Landon Lemke, a sophomore, were honorable mentions for the Bulldogs in 2019."Demmith scored 8 points per game, adding 7.4 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists per game.

"He was force in the middle, with classic footwork and solid rebounding," Motkowski said. "I am truly proud of the way that Breyden put time in to improve his game and matured to help lead our team as one of only two seniors this season. He had some big games for us inside that really helped us secure some needed victories."

Lemke took a little bit of time to adjust to the varsity level as a sophomore, but with 11.1 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game, Lemke has a solid foundation to grow into a star for the Bulldogs.

"Each and every night Landon found different ways to help our team win; whether we asked him to score, rebound, be a vocal leader, or cover the opponents best player, Landon always rose up to the occasion," Motkowski said. "I honestly believe that with his work ethic, passion, and size Landon has only scratched the surface of his basketball potential. Peshtigo Basketball is really lucky to have Landon Lemke back for two more seasons."

For the Peshtigo girls, sophomore Sydney Lund made the all-conference first team, while Grace Wickman represented the team as an honorable mention selection in her junior season.

Lund led the team in scoring, assists, steals, blocks and rebounds. She finished eighth in the conference with 10.3 points per game, adding 7.5 rebounds per game, which was third in the conference.

Defensively, she was always assigned the opponent's toughest offensive player, almost always rising to the task by playing a full 36 minutes, coach Bruce Parkovich said.

"Nice to see the other coaches saw the hard work she did and name her to the first team," he said.

Wickman finished the season second on the Bulldogs in points and three-pointers. She made 27 threes and scored 7.5 points per game.

"She certainly deserved to be in the top 25 in the conference and she's only a junior," Parkovich said.

For Oconto, junior Josh Woller was a first team selection, junior Caleb Moe and junior Will Sherman were honorable mentions.

Senior Jenna Hornblad was a first-teamer as a senior, while senior Aubree Bucheger was an honorable mention. Hornblad led the conference with 9 rebounds per game and was fifth in the conference with 14.3 points per game.
