Robert "Bob" G. Schacht, 93, of Marinette passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Aurora Medical Center, Bay Area.
Born July 11, 1926, to the late George and Irene (St. Thomas) in Marinette, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1944 and served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in Germany.
He worked for Scott Paper for 35 years and served for 8 years as the Mayor of Marinette in the 90's. On June 5, 1948, he married Patricia Behnke in Marinette and she preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1981. On Aug. 1, 1981, he married Janice Sopkowicz in Marinette and she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2002.
A member of Holy Family Parish, Marinette Elks Lodge, the VFW and Scott Retirees, he enjoyed singing Barbershop, playing the accordion, fishing, hunting and the Packers and Brewers.
He is survived by three sons, Jim (Debby) Schacht and Rick Schacht both of Marinette and Tom (Julie) Schacht of Ramsey, Mn.; two daughters, Ellen Basak and Karen Schacht, both of Marinette; a step-son, Bruce (Kathy) Sopkowicz; a sister, Audrey Brodzinski of Marinette; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two wives, Patricia and Janice and good friends, Fred Schacht and Bob Purvayn.
Visitation will be held at Thielen Funeral Home in Marinette on Monday, June 29 from 3 p.m. until time of Military Honors at 6 p.m. with the Military 20 Year Club. Funeral services will immediately follow with Deacon Jerome Thetreau officiating with burial in Forest Home Cemetery. Donations are appreciated to a Veteran's organization of one's choice in his name.
