Clyde James Thoune, 85, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.
Born Dec. 20, 1934, to the late Peter and Josephine (Bushenville) Thoune, he graduated from Stephenson High School in 1953 and worked in Milwaukee at American Motors and Milwaukee Hydraulics. In 1959, he married Donna Vargo in Milwaukee and later returned to Stephenson. In 1969, they purchased Belgiumtown Bar from his father and owned and operated the business for eight years. He then worked at KSU retiring in 1995.
Upon retirement, he was active in many clubs: Menominee County Pheasant Club (past president and founder), Menominee County Soil Conservation Chair, Mid-County Sportsmen liaison, UPSA, UP Whitetails Menominee River chapter, NWTF, Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years, Mid-County Senior Center Board, Church council for eight years, Stephenson ski jump club and started the Men's and Women's Slow-Pitch Softball, as well as, the Mid-County pool league.
He enjoyed working with his friend, Rocco, in the vineyard, fishing with Nick Diehm and Bill Schuester, making maple syrup every spring, but especially enjoyed time with family at camp.
Survivors inc; two sisters, Maggie Machalk and Doris Laurin; a brother, Alvin (Shirley) Thoune and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Emanuel (Henrietta) Thoune, Robert (Ernestine) Thoune, Glen (Theresa) Thoune, Margie (Don) Pecott, Joyce (Julius) Mikus, and Peter (Shirley) Thoune and two brother-in-laws, Jim Laurin and Louie Machalk.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 6 p.m., with Pastor Brenda Greenwald presiding. Due to the Covid restrictions, anyone who attends is asked to wear a mask. Online condolences can be made at www.andersondiehm.com
