Menominee Takes U.P. Baseball Championship

Issue Date: July 29, 2020

Red Wave Open Tournament With Win Over Bark River

The Menominee Red Wave took part in the U.P. baseball tournament for the summer season and sent Bark-River packing by way of a 10-0 final verdict.

Menominee's rout began in the second inning when Keaton Uecke scored off a Ethan Russell hit which was followed by Andrew Schroeder who swatted a three run hit.

Another run was tagged on in the third inning while adding three runs in the fourth. A final three runs in the sixth was all the Red Wave needed to completely put the game on ice.

Goldschmidt was good at the plate during the match up with a three for three performance.

Russell picked up the win with three strikeouts. He allowed two walks and no runs.

Menominee Continues Tournament Success With Win Over Sault Ste. Marie

The Menominee Red Wave continued to keep up their winning ways in the U.P tournament with a solid 10-0 win over Sault Ste. Marie Saturday.

The rout saw the Red Wave score three runs in the first inning and then repeat that success in the second inning for a 6-0 lead.

They tagged on one run in the fourth and three final runs in the fifth for the blow out 10-0 lead.

Dante Sartorelli got the mound win with no runs allowed. He strukeout six while walking two.

Menominee Takes Loss to Marquette

The Menominee Red Wave took a tourney loss to the Marquette boys who sent them to 2-1 in tournament play with a 5-4 defeat.

Marquette got an early lead with two runs in the first inning. They added one more in the second while adding two more in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.

In Menominee's half of the fourth, the bases were loaded and walks from Ethan Russell and Andrew Schroeder plated two runs to bring the tally to 5-2.

Menominee scored their final run of the game in the sixth when Keagan Monroe swatted an RBI single to score Russell.

Werner took the loss on the he mound for Menominee allowing five runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Menominee wins U.P. Championship with Defeat Of Gladstone

The Menominee Red Wave defeated Gladstone 7-5 to secure the U.P. championship for the 2020 summer baseball season.

Gladstone jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning but Menominee was able to fire back with one run each in the third and fourth innings to bring the lead to 4-2.

In the top of the sixth Menominee still trailed but found a way to light up the scoreboard with five runs to seize the 7-5 lead. Those five runs were started off by back to back doubles by Austin Burnside and Braeden McMahon. Those were followed by Buddy Beyer on a single.

Coleman Falls to Bonduel

The Coleman Cougars took a 6-5 loss to the Bonduel Bears last week.

The loss saw the Cougars get ahead early but lose grip over the later innings.

"We unraveled in the sixth inning," said Coleman head coach Kent Casper. "Sometimes things just don't happen the way you want. We did have good pitching today but we are playing great teams and things aren't easy."

Coleman was first on the board with a Will Bieber run and a run by Zack Cops during the third. Another three runs in the fourth helped to bolster that lead. Seth Seefeldt, Karson Casper and Bieber all crossed the plate during the inning for the 5-0 lead.

But then things turned on the Cougars as the Bears started to string together some hits scoring one in the fifth and another four in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. An extra innings run by Bonduel would spell defat for the Cougars.

"We are playing," said Casper. "The kids are having fun and enjoying the competition. We have some seniors out here and some young guys out here too. We have a good mix of talent here."

Little Chute Shutdown Crivitz

The Little Chute baseball team put the screws to Crivitz last weekend. Defeating the Wolverines 6-1.

Crivitz started the game with an Austin Burnside run in the first inning for the early 1-0 lead but saw Little Chute return fire in the second inning with three runs of their own. Another two Little Chute runs in the second helped to push the lead to 5-1 and a final run in the seventh gave Little Chute the final score of 6-1.
