Jane Kopish Sequin Sworn In As New Circuit Court Judge

Jane Kopish Sequin was sworn in as the new Marinette County Circuit Court Branch 1 judge in a ceremony at the courthouse on Thursday, July 23. David Miron, current Branch I judge presided at the ceremony and formally gave Kopish Sequin the oath of office. Judge Miron, announced his decision months ago to retire on July 31 creating an opening to fill the judicial position. Kopish Sequin won the position in the April election.
Kopish Sequin is a native of Marinette having graduated from Marinette Catholic Central High School. She went on to attend UW Marinette-Center, St. Norbert College and Marquette University Law School. Upon graduating from law school, she returned to Marinette to practice law with her father, Attorney William P. Kopish. She then worked for many years as a Family and Judicial Court Commissioner in Brown County. She was also the Marinette County Court Commissioner and Register in Probate. She has over 21 years of experience on the bench, during which time she presided over and rendered thousands of criminal, civil and family cases.
Kopish Sequin will take over her new duties as judge on August 1. She stated that it is truly an honor to be able to serve the people of Marinette County. Present for the swearing in ceremony was her husband Scott Sequin and two of their daughters. Judge James Morrison also spoke at the ceremony and presented a framed saying from King Solomon about wisdom, a tradition for new judges.
