
James D. BorskiIssue Date: October 28, 2020 James D. Borski, 83, of Menominee, Mi., passed away at his home Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 after a brief illness, surrounded by his wife, daughters and his dogs.
Born Oct. 12, 1937 in Menominee, to Barney and Sophie (Stanieski) Borski, he lived in Menominee all his life and graduated from Menominee High School in 1957. He joined the National Guard 32nd Division and in 1961 was called to active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis. He married his soul mate, the former Lou Ann Brabant on Aug. 19, 1961 and they lived in the same house they built 58 years ago.
Known as a local historian, he was a free lance writer for several newspapers and did historical research for different authors. A charter member of the Menominee County Historical Society, he served on their Board of Directors. He retired from Holy Spirit Church as head of maintenance after 29 years, where he was a member. He also belonged to Menominee American Legion Post 146 and volunteered for the RSVP program.
An avid gardener, he also loved all animals and raised doves for many years. He was a dedicated sports fan of the Packers, Brewers and Red Wings Hockey. He and his wife loved traveling and almost completed their bucket list.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lou Ann; five daughters, Brenda (Thomas) Ducat, Michele Borski, Ann Reince, Lynn (Drew Garsow) Rasner and Hope Borski; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two on the way; a great-great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Roger Borski and a sister, Susan Micheels.
Among his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Judith Borski.
Visitation was held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a Prayer Service led by Fr. Brian Gerber with an Honors Ceremony conducted by the Military 20-Year Club. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested for UP Health & Hospice, the Menominee Animal Shelter or Menominee Heritage Museum.
