Kenneth "Buzz" Mechalson, 93, of Marinette, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at the Luther Home.
Born Jan. 28, 1927 in Marinette, to Ralph "Rollie" and Mae (Derusha) Mechalson, he lived at Luther Home for almost four years and prior to that was a proud resident of Menekaunee, residing on the first block of Bird Street almost all of his life. He served in the United States Navy and was a longtime employee of Marinette Marine Corp., retiring in 1989. Always proud of working there, he watched the growth of the yard and many times would say, "If Harold could only see this now."
He is survived by a daughter, Mardee (Ron) of Stephenson, Mi.; a daughter-in-law, Sydney Mechalson of Marinette; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Barb Scheffan of Crivitz and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fifarek, Marge Burns and Shirley (Don) Hubert.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine (Hanson) Mechalson; a son, Ralph Mechalson of Marinette; a granddaughter, Jessica (Mechalson) Keller of Marinette; a great-granddaughter, Darrien Mechalson of Marinette; in-laws, Lawrence and Emma Hanson of Marinette; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Francis VanHemelryk; a nephew, Jim VanHemelryk and brothers-in-law, Bob Hanson, Jack Fifarek and Roger Burns.
Friends called at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 4 p.m. until time of Military honors at 6 p.m. by the Military Twenty-Year Club, followed by a service led by Chaplain Karen Anne Hanson. Entombment was in Forest Home Mausoleum in Marinette.
