Gary Lamonte Burley, 89, of Marinette, passed away Wednesday, Noe. 25, 2020 at Aurora BayCare Center in Marinette.
Born Sept. 15, 1931 in Munising, Mi., to the late Dale Sr. and Mabel (Berube) Burley, he graduated from Munising High School in 1949. He then attended Northern Michigan University for one year before entering the United States Navy in 1952, where he served for four years. He married Marjorie Ann Dufour on Aug. 14, 1953 and they were together for over 62 years until her death in 2016.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Michigan State University and served as a Teacher and Principal for over 42 years. In the Menominee/Marinette area, he will be remembered as Principal of Menominee High School and then of Marinette Catholic Central, prior to retiring. He was a member of Resurrection Parish in Menominee.
He is survived by a daughter, Michele (Patrick) Lemire and a son, Patrick Burley, both of Menominee; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Amourette and Doug Miron of Munising, Mi. and a brother-in-law, Frank (Ann) Dufour of Twain Hart, Ca.
Along with his wife, Marge, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gale and a brother, Dale Jr.
A private service and burial, with a Celebration of Life will be held in the future. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Mi. In lieu of flowers, an educational scholarship fund will be created in his name. Any expressions of sympathy and kindness can be directed to a family member. Cadieu Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family.
