Jacqueline M. JoyIssue Date: December 29, 2020
Jacqueline Mary (Elias) Joy, 86, passed away on December 26, 2020, surrounded in love with her family by her side.
She was born on September 10, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Ann (Jarski) Elias. She was raised in the Minneapolis area until her family relocated to Peshtigo, WI. Jackie later graduated from Peshtigo High School, where she was majorette of the PHS band. Jackie met Tom at the local dance where they fell in love and were married on September 27, 1952.
Jackie worked by Tom's side as owners of Tom Joy & Son, Inc. Together, they also farmed until 1986. There, they raised their six children. She has been blessed with a large family including six children, 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
As a member of AMPI, Jackie was the coordinator for the Breakfast on the Farm for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Woman's Club in Harmony. Jackie also transported students for St. John's Lutheran School. She was a member of the Harmony Sportsman's Club, on several bowling leagues, and an active card player. She was on the board of the Pound Medical Clinic, which was instrumental in recruiting Dr. Kelly McGuire and Dr. Calvin Nogler.
Along with her niece, Carolyn Weed, the two enjoyed creating wedding cakes together. Puzzle building was another favorite pastime. Family was the most important thing in Jackie's life. Along with Tom, they taught our large family to love family and friends alike and be kind to all. They were a constant fixture at all events involving their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jackie was the emotional rock of our family, providing guidance and support in good times and bad.
Jackie is survived by their six children and spouses: Tom and Cathy; Dan and Jane; Daryl and Maureen; Debbie and Matt Brown; Julie and Jeff Hartwig; Brenda and Ken Shevy; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, June Ehlers; two very special friends, Jack Clark and Enid Behnke; many special nieces and nephews and extended Canadian family members.
Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; her parents; her sisters, Joan Kallstrom, Jean Winkler and Janet Sanders; two grandchildren, Tabitha Jean Hartwig and Benjamin Thomas Joy; her in-laws Thomas and Nina Joy; brothers/sisters-in-law, Orlene (Asa) Weed, Audrey (John) Glass and Dick Ehlers; nephew, Gene Weed, along with special friend, Marie Clark.
Due to Covid restrictions, the family plans a private funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jackie's memory.
Family is being assisted by Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home of Peshtigo.
