
Doris E. Cornell Issue Date: December 29, 2020 Doris Elizabeth (Wauters) Cornell, formerly of Menominee, Mi. and Carney, Mi., passed away Friday, Dec. 18 in St. Peters, Mo.
Born June 23, 1925 in Carney, to the late Arthur and Anna (Motto) Wauters, she married Francis Cornell on May 18, 1946 in Menominee and they were married for 68 years. They lived in Menominee and were members of Holy Spirit Church. For the past several years she lived near family.
A member of the Menominee General Federation Woman's Club, where she served as a local and district chairman, she also was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella Marchena Circle #431, serving six years as regent, was a member of St. Ann's Sodality, formerly serving as Vice-President, was given "Life Membership" in the Bay Area Medical Center Auxiliary, after serving several years as a unit chairman was a past President of the former Menominee St. Joseph-Lloyd Hospital Auxiliary and had the honor of being the first woman elected to the Board of Directors of that hospital. She held memberships on the Upper Peninsula and local Health Planning Boards, was active in several school organizations while her children were in school and served in many officer roles.
Before her marriage, she worked at Carpenter Cook Company for 3-½ years. After 27 years and raising her children, she returned to work at Carpenter Cook in 1974 in the Accounting Department, retiring in 1986 as Retail Accounting Manager.
She is survived by four sons, James Cornell (Elaine) of Overland Park, Ks., Tom (Marian) Cornell of St. Peters, Mo. and Daniel Cornell and Mike Connelly, both of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Terry Cornell of Aliso Viejo, Ca.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers, Geraldine Ihde, Shirley (Arnie) Spaude, Duane (Rita) Wauters, Glenn Wauters, Don (Barb) Wauters; two sister-in-laws, Gwen Wauters and Mary Lou Watson and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis in 2015; Anna, Marian and Arthur Wauters; her son, Steven; two brothers, Roy and Gerald Wauters and one sister, Ruby Harring.
Due to the pandemic, private family services were held and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Cadieu Funeral Home of Menominee is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia Society at https://giving.mskcc.org
