THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Season's Readings!!
Issue Date: January 13, 2021
Thankfully this holiday season not everything changed.
Mrs. Lucus' first grade class and Mrs. Plucker's high school AP English students in the Crivitz School District were able to successfully team up to celebrate the joyous love of reading while promoting the importance of early literacy.
The holidays are an amazing time to come together to share many wonderful and warm sentiments; however, this unusual season produced a few unique obstacles for these lovers of reading. The classes decided that the tradition of advocating for life-long future readers must go on. And on it did with a little creative thinking and a whole lot of drive and desire and of course with a little help from Google Meet!
Each AP high school student volunteered to read a festive book or two of his/her choice to a few first graders via an online chat. This was a fantastic opportunity to integrate technology into the love of reading. With a sparkle in their eyes, the first graders were more than thrilled to connect with an older reading buddy. As the meet carried on, all of the older reading buddies were gifted with a thrill as well.
Revealing enthusiastic gratitude for the time spent together, the young students returned the reading pleasure and favor. The first graders were able to select books to read aloud to the high school students. Some read as many as ten books. It was a merry, cheerful reading extravaganza. What a grand feeling everyone had sharing the power and magic of the written word. This Google jubilee was a complete success; all the students involved were inspired to celebrate the importance of reading and were also encouraged to share the elation of reading with others. It is truly a season for reading.
Please encourage all whom you know (big and small) to read this season and all other seasons because the power of reading is a gift that will truly keep on giving. Happy Holidays from Crivitz School District.
