WIAA Tournament Play Begins; Gillett Advances Over Crivitz

Gillett Blasts Crivitz in Regional

The Gillett Tigers overhauled the Crivitz Wolverine girls Tuesday night in Regional Basketball action as they took the win 62-33.

But beyond winning the important region game the Tigers honored one of their greats Aubrey DeBauch who during the game became the first Gillett basketball player to score 1000 points and pull down 1000 rebounds.

"This was a special night," said Gillett Head Coach Justin Daul. "We got to honor two of our senior greats. They have been such a part of what makes our teams special this past four years. Aubrey breaking the school record in scoring and to be the first Gillett player to do 1000 points and 1000 rebounds. So special!"

It was the Tiger's game from start to finish. It wasn't even close as the Tigers quickly fired their way to a 37-11 first half differential. That differential was attacked by the Wolverines over the second half though with the girls in blue and gold getting 22 points to the Tiger's 25.

By games end the Wolverines were led by Nilea Guns with 14 points and McKenna Sellen with six points. Taylah Werner and Riley Mueller both posted four points each.

"Our seniors get to leave their home court in the regular season as winners," said Daul. "That is so important to me. We are playing great ball right now and am so proud of them. We have some tough games ahead though with Crandon the number four rated team in the state. If we can win that that would say a lot."

Gillett was led by the evening's top performer Karissa Schaal who posted 20 points. Aubrey DeBuach followed up with 13 points while Cheyenne Krueger got eight points.

"From the start my freshman season it never really was in my mind that i was going to break the 1000 rebound mark", said Aubrey Debauch. "But then in my sophomore year it was already starting to look like a possibility. Last season I passed the school rebound record which was 555. This season it was all about hitting my 1000 points. I had no idea i was going to do them both in the same night."



Oconto Defeats Coleman

The Oconto Blue Devils took a win over the Coleman Cougar girls last Saturday 56-26.

The big win saw the Blue Devils shoot their way to a 4 point lead over the first half 21-17.

The second half saw the Cougar offense break down as the Oconto girls quickly worked their way to that game winning lead.

Leading the way for the Cougars was Aubrey Bintz with eight points and Cameron Compe with seven points. Desiree Nowak and Hailey Ziemer both posted four points each.

Oconto was led by Lianna Baxter with 26 points and Leah Allen with 10 points.



Gillett Gets Win Over Laona/Wabeno

The Gillett Tigers posted a very close victory over the visiting Laona/Wabeno Rebels Saturday evening 58-56.

The close battle saw the Tigers sprint to a huge lead over the first half. That margin was 34-20.

But a tough Rebel crew returned fire over the second half posting enough points to get within two of the lead 58-56.

The Rebels were led by Kylie Higgins with 15 points and and Brace Krauze with five points.

Gillett was led by Aubrey Debauch with 14 points and Karissa Schaal with 12 points.



Crivitz Beats STAA 57-35

The Crivitz Wolverine girls hosted the St. Thomas Aquinas Cavaliers Saturday and were able to come away with the 57-35 victory.

Over the first half the Wolverines were able to get double the point of the Cavvies, entering the locker room way ahead 30-15.

STAA did make up a little ground over the second half, posting 20 points but the 27 points from the Wolverines end would ensure the win.



Gillett Blows Out Lena

The Gillett Tigers had little troubles in the way of the Lena Wildcats last Friday evening when they handed the Wildcats a resounding 67-29 defeat.

The Tigers really started strong in this one. After posting their 48 points there was no looking back as the Wildcats struggled to keep up, positing 15 first half points and finishing the game with 14 second frame points.

Gillett tacked on an additional 19 points to close the game.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Aubrey DeBauch with 22 points and Macy Franti with 13 points. Kris Schaal added 10 to the tally.

Lena was led by Kennedy Marquardt and Chaela Rabas who both posted eight points each. Claire Brooks and Roslyn Kramer both got five points each.



Suring Bags Win Over STAA

The Suring Eagles took a big win over the St. Thomas Aquinas girls last week, defeating them by way of a 61-23 final verdict.

The big win saw the Suring girls post 28 point over the first half while holding the Cavvies to just 12 points. Over the second half the Cavvies were only able to muster 11 points while the Eagles scored to the win with 33 extra points.



Bonduel Beats Back Gillett

The Bonduel Bears proved to be a little too much for the Gillett Tigers Tuesday night as they were set down by the Bears 61-38.

The blow out win saw the Bears fire off early and often over the opening frame, getting way ahead 29-19.

The Tigers kept consistent with an additional 19 points over the second half but unfortunately for them the Bears were just getting started as they finished the frame with 33 points.

Bonduel was led by Allaina Robaidek with 18 points and Kara Troxel with 16 points.

Aubrey DeBauch led the way for the Tigers with 14 points while Carleigh Kaczmarek added eight.



Crivitz Gets Beaten by Coleman

The home court Cougars were not going to be denied a win last Tuesday when their cross town rivals the Crivitz Wolverines showed up. They handed the invading Wolverines a 67-34 loss.

It quickly became apparent that the Wolverines were not going to be able to keep pace with the Cougars who shot their way to a 34 point first half tally. Crivitz on the other hand struggled to post 12.

Over the second half the Wolverines found their stride and were able to produce 22 points but the always consistent Cougars finished the game like they started it, getting 33 points to close out the competition.

Coleman was led by the night's top scorer Hailey Ziemer with 20 points and Aubrey Bintz who posted nine. Cameron Compe added eight to the tally.

Crivitz was led by Nilea Guns with 10 points and Kylie Chilcote and Riley Mueller who both posted six points each.



Onieda Nation Defeats Niagara

The Onieda Nation Thunderhawks bagged a 53-46 win over the hosting Niagara Badgers Monday night.

Oneida Nation, who have not played for most of the season due to Covid restrictions took the court in Niagara and wasted no time in buidling a 34-25 first half lead.

The Secona frame sawe Niagara pick up some slack with 21 points but still fall short of a comeback with the Thunderhawks finihsing stroing with 19 points.

Niagara was led by Alyssa Cretton with 16 points and Josie Rock with 15 points.

Oneida NAtion was led by M'Kenzy Ackley with 27 points and Abby House with eight.



Lena Overcomes STAA in Regional

The Lena Wildcats bagged a 40-23 vicroery over the St. Thomas Aquinas Cavalier Tuesdaty night in WIAA Regional action.

Lena built a 25-14 lead over the secondhalf before finihsing strong with 15 points. STAA had troubles over the second frame and amssed only nine points.

Lena was led by Kennedy Marquardt with 15 points and Chalea Rabas posted 10 points.

STAA ended the night with Addie Pristelski as its top scorer with 11 points. Bryleigh Smith posted seven points.
