
Cougars Win 63 Team On The Water Wrestling ClassicIssue Date: January 6, 2022 Coleman brought home a team victory from the 2021 Lourdes Academy On the Water Wrestling Classic last week.
The event, which took place at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh on Wednesday and Thursday, is an annual favorite for a number of teams in northeast Wisconsin. In total, 63 teams attended, including the Cougars, Peshtigo and Lena.
The Cougars scored 3105 points to take home the team championship. Winneconne was second with 257.5 and Stevens Point finished third with 231.
Coleman's top finishers were a pair of silver medalists. Karson Casper took second at 145 and Will Bieber took second at 152.
Casper started off with pins of Southern Door's Thomas Grosbier in 2:50 and Antigo's Jayson Arrowood in 1:35.
He then defeated Neenah's Austin Lewis by 9-1 major decision and Random Lake's Stone Pomeroy by a 7-3 decision. In the first place match, he wasn't able to hand Winneconne's Caleb Meunier his first loss of the season, as Meunier moved his record to 19-0 with a pin of Casper in 2:53.
Bieber started off with four pin victories, taking down Wilmot Union's Ashton Leahy in 59 seconds, Neenah's Nick Novak in 30 seconds, Shawano's Noah Jones in 1:30 and Laconia's Colton Lovejoy in 3:27 before facing off with Stevens Point's T.J. Schierl in the championship, where he was pinned in 3:24.
Four Cougars took third in their individual weight classes: Ray Lemieux, Brady Gross, Cole Klimek and Brody Zahn.
Lemieux (113) won his first two matches over Chippewa Falls' Iverson Beckwith and Hortonville's Collin Schroeder in 56 and 50 seconds, respectively, then beat Wisconsin Lutheran's Coen Henn by 5-1 decision. He lost an 11-0 major decision to West Bend West's Ben Bast in the semifinal, however. He bounced back to win a pair of consolation decisions and take third, beating Brillion's Bob Huntley 6-5 and Henn in a 5-2 decision.
Gross pinned Oshkosh North's Caleb Mckay in 13 seconds, beat Germantown's Ryan Michalski in a 15-2 major decision and took an injury default win over Lena's Luke Misco before losing a 2-1 heartbreaker decision in the semifinal against Wittenberg-Birnamwood's Pierson Potrykus. Gross finished the tournament with an injury default over Kenosha Indian Trail's Sullivan Ramos and a 4-2 decision win over Mason Mau of Belleville/Sugar River.
Klimek got pins in his first two matches, pinning Kewaskum's Colin Duren in 2:32 and Belleville/Sugar River's Alex Zielinski in 3:45. He beat Denmark's Elijah Shefchik in a 3-2 decision before taking a 9-2 decision loss at the hands of Plymouth's Silas Dailey. Klimek won his final two matches by pin over Stevens Point's Conner Seavers and major decision against Wabeno-Laona's Ryan Roy.
Zahn's first two wins came via very quick pins, as he took down Kewaskum's Kaiden Naumann in 25 seconds and Wisconsin Lutheran's Jordan Jackson in 47 seconds. He lost in the quarterfinal by 11-2 major decision against Stevens Point's Jaren Rohde. Before bouncing back with three decisions and a 45-second pin against Antigo's Brady Vandeweerd. He finished off the day with a 3-2 decision against Lomira's Zach Pust.
Owen Kinziger (160) won four live matches, including back-to-back sudden victory wins over West De Pere's Thomas Mudd and Hartford's Noah Deibert. He lost two live matches and took a forfeit in the fifth-place match.
Micah Kuchta took 10th at 138. He went 4-3 in live matches.
Conner Markiewicz (106) did not place after going 2-2 in live matches, John Nowak (120) went 1-2 and did not place, Chance Gruber (132) was 1-2 and did not place, Adam Fonder (195) was 0-2 in live matches and Dameon Burke was 1-2 at 220.
Lena took 40th in the team standings, led by a pair of seventh-place individuals.
Sam Marquardt (138) beat Kenosha Indian Trail's Dorian Solis in a 6-4 decision and Cambellsport's JJ Ksioszk in a 1:51 pin before a 3:09 pin loss to Ayden Hart of Winneconne. He beat West De Pere's Ryker Crooks by 3-2 decision and lost 8-4 to Menomonee Falls' Ben Kaus, then ended the day with a forfeit win.
Dylan Comins (106) was seventh as well with a 4-2 live record. He won three matches by pin, taking down Chippewa Falls's Henry Brunner in 23 seconds, Belleville/Sugar River's Blake Endres in 49 seconds and West Bend West's Ethan Bast in 1:50.
Luke Misco (126) started his day with two wins before having to take injury default or medical forfeit losses in each of his final four matches. He ended up in 12th.
Josh Kristoff (170) was 2-2 with two pin wins but did not place. Franky Umentum (182) was 0-2 and didn't place.
Peshtigo came in 43rd as a team. The Bulldogs' top finisher was Ethan Brissette, who was ninth in the 132-pound weight class.
Brissette started with a pin victory over Kenosha Indian Trail's Lance Mazanet before a pin loss to Bryce Crowley of Omro. He won four of his final five matches and finished with a 5-2 record in live matches. He beat Southern Door's Trevor Englebert 5-2, Wilmot Union's Mason Gauger 10-5, Bonduel's Colin Fischer 6-2, and Campbellsport's Sam Koth in a 2:58 pin. He was pinned by South Milwaukee's Connor O'donnell.
Connor Thomas was 10th at 220. He went 4-3 in live matches, including three pin victories over Hortonville's Ben Smith in 2:39, West Allis Hale's Jay Krueger in 44 seconds and Green Bay Preble's Logan Peterson in 2:34.
Reese Yunke placed 11th at 126. He went 4-3 in live matches, with pin victories against Chilton/Hilbert's Ashton Gieger in 49 seconds and Fond du Lac's Dante Santana in 2:01.
Ethan Suennen (106) was 1-2 in live matches and did not place, while Levi Nemec (138), Jessie Haynes (145) and Caleb Klimek (160) were each 0-2.

Pace Panthers at
Bi-State Classic
Oconto Falls headed to La Crosse for the Bi-State Classic last week, taking on nearly 80 teams from around Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The Panthers took eighth out of 26 Division 2 teams. Luxemburg-Casco, Lodi and Zumbrota-Mazeppa (MN) were the top three teams in D2.
Clayton Whiting won the 182-pound weight class. He pinned Eastview's Luke Habeck in 36 seconds, topped Stratford's Jackson Ormond in an 18-5 tech fall and pinned Aquinas' Riley Klar in 1:02. He finished the day by pinning Zumbrota-Mazeppa's (MN) Gabe Tupper in 3:01 and beating Pulaski's Trent Gibbons in a 17-3 tech fall.
Garret Ganter (106) was 2-2 in live matches and did not place, Cole Bozile (113) was 3-2 in live matches, Parker Peterson (126) was 2-2, Jaden Ganter (132) went 2-2, Weston Borkovec (145) was 1-2, Quinton McDonald (152) was 0-2, Jeremy Caldwell (160) was 0-2, Cody Dellise (170) went 2-2, Nick Trepanier (195) went 4-2 in live matches but did not place, Brenner Cole (220) was 0-2 and Mitchell Kallies (2-2).
Graeson Pankratz (120) placed seventh. He went 4-2 in live matches. He won his first two matches by decision and tiebreaker before a quarterfinal loss by sudden victory against Lucas Bortz of Goodhue (MN). Bortz is 18-1 on the year.
He got a 3-2 decision win over Caledonia/Houston's (MN) Simon Seymour before a 2-1 decision loss to Stoughton's Chance Suddeth. Pankratz finished the day with a decision victory.
Luke Trepanier (138) placed 11th, winning five of his eight matches. He won four of his first five matches, including three by pin, before two straight pin losses in the sixth and seventh consolation rounds. He ended the day with a 7-3 decision over Belmont/Platteville's Tanner Paulson.
Maroons Go 3-2 at
Munising Super Duals
Menominee took on five opponents at the Munising Super Duals on Wednesday, picking up three team wins.
Menominee beat Bark River-Harris, Gwinn and Rudyard, but lost to St. Ignace and Munising.
The final score against Bark River was 30-18. Ian Johnson (135) pinned Melody Racicot in 1:22 and four Maroons won by forfeit, with Mason Maley (119), Ethan Primley-Nerat (171), Cameran Gauthier (215) and Eric Stokes (285) uncontested.
For BRH, David Moss (152) pinned Kadyn Smejkol in 4:15 and Jacob Wandahsega (189) pinned Landan Bardowski in 1:40. Emily Linn (160) won by forfeit.
Menominee beat Gwinn 27-9. Smejkol (152) pinned Konner Roberts in 1:42, Donevin Pierce (171) beat Matt Jenkins 6-5, and Johnson (130), Gauthier (215) and Stokes (285) won by forfeit.
Gwinn got a win at 119, where Thomas Jenkins beat Maley 6-2. Connor Dalten (189) pinned Bardowski in 2:36.
Menominee's win against Rudyard was full of forfeits. The only live match was a Ben Smart pin over Johnson at 130, which took only 24 seconds.
Gauther (215), Stokes (285), Smejkol (152), Ethan Primley-Nerat (171) and Braxton Silkworth (189) were forfeit winners for the Maroons.
Rudyard won by forfeit at 135, 140 and 145.
St. Ignace beat Menominee 42-12. Menominee's only points were by forfeit from Primley-Nerat (189) and Stokes (285).
St. Ignace got two forfeits, and Jonathan Litzner (125) pinned Maley in 32 seconds, Jax Lipnitz (135) pinned Johnson in 1:37, Gabriel Werkhesier (152) pinned Smejkol in 40 seconds, Austin Roughton (171) pinned Silkworth in 2:50, and Paul Roughton (215) pinned Bardowski in 3:20.
It was a 42-18 final score against Munising. Menominee's points came from forfeits via Maley (119) and Silkworth (189), along with a Smejkol pin of Conner Masters in 45 seconds at 152.
For Munising, Andrew Cain (130) pinned Johnson in 1:30, William Crisp (171) pinned Primley-Nerat in 2:45, Robert Johns (215) pinned Gauthier in a minute and Riley Murk (285) took down Stokes in 30 seconds. They also won four matches by forfeit.
