Coleman 1st Loss of
Season; Split Share
of Conference Title
The Crivitz Wolverines beat undefeated Coleman to claim a share of the M&O Conference title on Thursday, the first in program history.
Coleman took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a Cole Klimek single that scored Logan Kurth. The Wolverines put a runner on second in the bottom of the frame following a Logan Goltz walk but couldn't push him across.
In the bottom of the third, Kaiden Goltz walked to start off the inning. An error by the left fielder moved him to third, and he scored on a Tegan Wener double to tie the game. Seth Sellen hit a sacrifice fly to score Eli Gruszynski and take the lead, and Jacob Behrendt tripled in Werner but was thrown out advancing to home.
In the fourth, Crivitz extended the lead, this time without getting the bats too involved. After two outs to start the inning, Chad Schroeder and Goltz walked to spark the rally. A fielder's choice by the shortstop loaded the bases with two outs, and Karson Casper hit Werner to score Schroeder. A passed ball brought in Goltz.
Coleman threatened in the fifth. After back-to-back strikeouts to start the frame, Eli Zablocki walked, Trent Mongin doubled, and Will Bieber was intentionally walked to load the bases. Casper grounded out to the third baseman to end the threat.
In the sixth, Coleman again put a runner in scoring position, but a pair of putouts brought things to an end once again.
Sean Christiansen made it through 6.2 innings on the hill for Crivitz, allowing just the one run on four hits and four walks. He struck out seven. Behrendt got the final out of the game.
Casper took the loss, getting through four innings while allowing five runs (three earned). Logan Kurth threw two scoreless innings in relief.
Crivitz had just five hits, but they got good value from them. Gruszynski was 2-4 with a run scored, Behrendt was 2-3 with an RBI, and Wener was 1-3 with a run and an RBI.
For Coleman, Kurth was 2-3 with a run scored. Joey Olsen had an RBI.
The loss was Coleman's only loss of the season, as the Cougars moved to 19-1 overall on the year. Crivitz lost only one conference game, a 6-4 defeat at Coleman on April 25.

STAA in Five Innings
Coleman beat Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy 14-2 in five innings on Monday.
Karson Casper went 2-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Cole Klimek was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI. Logan Kurth was 2-3 with a double, three runs, and two RBIs. Noah Nosgotvitz went 1-2 with two runs and a walk and Ray Lemieux was 2-3 with an RBI. Will Bieber doubled with a run and an RBI.
STAA committed eight errors and walked four hitters.
Joe King got the win for Coleman, striking out 11 hitters over five innings. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk.
Teagan Anderson took the loss after allowing 10 runs (six earned). At the plate, he was 2-3 with an RBI. Henry Piasecki was 1-2 with a run scored.
Hornets Sting
Rangers 10-6
Gillett/Suring hung a crooked number five in the seventh inning to beat Wausaukee 10-6 on Monday night.
Wausaukee jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings, but the Hornets tied things up with three in the fourth and one more in the fifth.
After a run apiece in the sixth, G/S put together a big seventh-inning rally to take a 10-5 lead. Wausaukee scored one in the seventh but couldn't muster the kind of comeback necessary to tie or win the game.
Hornets batters walked 10 times and were hit by three pitches in the game, helping to supplement eight hits and produce 10 runs.
Taaron Haak got the win, throwing seven innings and allowing six runs (three earned). Six Hornet errors contributed to his run total.
Prestin Brunette started the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs. Ryan Wojcik took the loss. He got out and allowed four earned.
At the dish, the Hornets' Ryan Pensis was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Mikey Pecanas was 1-3 with two runs, an RBI, and two walks, Colton Peters was 1-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Carter Whisman was 1-3 with two runs scored.
Haak and Austin VandeCorput each scored a run and added an RBI, and Alex Kershner went 1-5 with an RBI.
Wausaukee's Nathan Shaw was 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Prestin Brunette and Kayden Suennen were 1-4 with a run each and Connor Schroeder was 1-3 with a run.
Marinette Suffers
Hard Fought Loss
to Little Chute
It isn't too often that a team loses 10-1 and still feels like the game could have gone their way. That's how the Marinette baseball coach Mike Maedke looked at Monday's loss to Little Chute.
The scoreboard shows that the Marines were walloped by the Mustangs, with a grand slam and three-run home run making up seven of the 10 Little Chute runs.
On the other side of the coin, Marinette was thrown out at third base three times. The Marines had just four hits, but unlike some of their early games this season, they put the ball in play very well, striking out just four times.
"One guy's got to break it open, and the next guy's got to do the same thing. Hitting is contagious," Maedke said. "These last handful of games, while the runs and the overall base hits haven't been there, we've made solid contact, we haven't struck out 12, 13 times like we did early in the year. We're aggressive early, and if the kids are getting their pitch in an 0-1, 0-0 count, I'm fine with that."
Marinette didn't commit an error until the seventh inning, when they committed one error that didn't result in a run.
"It's hard to sit back and look back at a 10-1 loss as a good game, but we played it clean," Maedke said. "That's baseball."
Marinette took advantage of a pair of Mustang errors in the sixth to push across Alex Lemery for the team's lone run of the game.
Ashton Lebich reached base three times for Marinette, once on a single, once on a fielder's choice, and once after being hit by a pitch.
Peshtigo Survives
Three Lakes 2-1
Landon Beyer shut down the Three Lakes offense and drove in both Peshtigo runs in a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Three Lakes took the lead in the first inning after Cole Melton, the team's starting pitcher, singled to lead off the game and came around to score. That single would be just one of three Blue Jay hits on the day, as Beyer settled in nicely.
He would go seven innings in just 82 pitches, striking out six and allowing one run on three hits. He didn't walk a batter.
Beyer got himself some run support in the fourth. Landon Lemke reached on a single with one out. After a fielder's choice put Trevor Walters on first and sent Lemke to the dugout, Will McMahon clubbed a double to put runners on second and third with two outs and Beyer coming to the plate.
Beyer hit a double of his own to bring two runs in and give himself a lead on the mound, which he wouldn't relinquish. One runner reached base in each of the last three innings, two by error and one on a single, but Beyer stranded all three and handed his team a big momentum-building win.
He was 1-3 with two RBIs at the plate. McMahon was 2-3 at the dish with a run scored.

Brady Tadisch was 1-4 with a run and Eli Gruszynski went 1-4 with a run and an RBI.
Andrekopoulos went five innings to get the win. He allowed four runs, all unearned, on one hit and three walks, striking out seven. Behrendt threw the final two frames without allowing a run.
NEW's Griffin Steffel took the loss.

Late Game Rally to
Beat Gillett/Suring
Crivitz withstood a seventh-inning rally to beat Gillett/Suring 9-5 on Tuesday.
The Wolverines led 9-0 after five innings. After the Hornets scored one in the sixth, it looked to be locked up, but the Hornets scored four in the seventh and looked poised for even more.
The first three batters of the inning reached on walks, and an error started to bring runs across the plate.
Keegan Rattin had a big two-out double to keep things going, but the rally ended at four with Chad Schroeder shutting things down and getting a backwards K to wrap up the win.
Crivitz had 10 hits on the day, led by Eli Gruszynski's three hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
Seth Sellen was 1-2 with two runs, an RBI, and a double, and Caleb McCullough was 1-3 with a run and an RBI.
Jacob Behrendt was 2-3 with a run and an RBI to help his own cause on the mound. He got the win for five scoreless innings during which he allowed just three hits, struck out eight, and did not issue a walk.
Brady Tadisch allowed two earned runs (three total) in one inning and Schroeder got three outs, allowing two unearned runs.
For Gillett/Suring, Ethan Lally took the loss. He pitched four innings and allowed seven runs (six earned).
At the plate, Rattin and Austin VandeCorput were both 2-3 with two RBIs. Colton Peters scored two runs and Alex Kershner was 1-2 with a run scored.
