Coleman's Casper & Bieber Share Baseball MVP

Issue Date: July 13, 2022

The M&O conference released the all-conference selections for the 2022 baseball season and it was the Co-Champion Coleman Cougars and Crivitz Wolverines that took the lion's share of the first team selections.

Coleman secured five spots on the prestigious first team while Crivitz racked up four. Both Lena and Coleman added one player each.

For the Cougars it wasn't just the most selections but two who were named the Co-MVPs of the season. They were Will Bieber who made the first team at the position of catcher and Karson Casper who made the team as a pitcher.

The two were both part of a team that included a very talent rich roster. Though they shared the title of the M&O they were able to take an edge in their season series with the Wolverines by defeating them in the conference tournament where they won the tournament's traveling trophy.

Also joining the MVP's on the first team list were Coleman standouts Logan Kurth, an infield selection and Noah Nosgovitz who was also selected for the infield. Cole Klimek joined the first team, for his play in the outfield.

"I always look at these as being more about the team," said Coleman head coach Kent Casper. "We had a very good year in the conference, we tied with Crivitz but then we came back and beat them twice. Once in the regular season and once in the league tournament. So we finished 11-1. So we finished 13-1 with the tournament record and 22-2 overall. Don't want to say too much about the Oconto game. We had 10 errors in the game and we were still in that game. We had a great year and a great year before. When we look at the all conference players, all the players had a great season."

Crivitz was also well represented on the first team this season with the section of four of its top tier players.

Junior Sean Christiansen was placed on the team for his play at the position of pitcher while Jacob Behrendt and Eli Gruszynski made the first team at infield. Chad Schroeder was placed on the first team for the outfield.

"Sean really came on strong for us this year," said Crivitz head coach Jeff Dorschner. " He took the ball for all our big games and did a really nice job keeping us in games. I really believe he's just starting to scratch the surface on his ability. Athletically he's got a high ceiling and I'm looking forward to seeing how he takes another step for us next year as a senior."

Dorschner continued by talking about the contributions of Behrendt and Gruszynski. "Jake was one of our most consistent players all season. He has a high baseball IQ and provided some stability to the middle of our lineup. He really had a solid senior season for us," said Dorschner. "Eli statistically had one of the most productive seasons in my time here at Crivitz. Not only did he put up some huge numbers in conference play, he was solid against some pretty good non-conference competition as well. He set the tone for our offense in the leadoff spot. We will have big shoes to fill come next year, losing his productivity."

Making the first team for Crivitz was Chad Schroeder. Dorschner said, "Chad was outstanding for us in center field this season defensively. His offensive production improved tremendously from his junior year to his senior year. He was able to find ways to get on base for us near the bottom of our order and was always a threat on the base-paths."

Lena added Logan Shallow at the position of infield.

Logan's head coach Douglas Jahnke said, "Logan is a leader on and off the field. He has helped in all sports by using his leadership abilities to get his peers in the weight room. For baseball specifically, he has helped tremendously with the inexperienced players beside him in the infield. As for his play, he was about as solid as it gets by putting the ball in play and making the plays when needed."

Wausaukee's lone selection was Kamden Stumbris who was added for his play in the outfield.

This season's second team was loaded with Crivitz athletes. There were four Wolverines making the list. Senior Kaiden Goltz as a catcher, junior Dilan Gehm and sophomore Tegan Werner as infielders and junior Seth Sellen as an outfielder.

Lena placed three on the second team with the selections of senior Lane Whiting at pitcher, sophomore Logan Graef for the infield and freshman Tyler Shallow for the outfield.

Niagara had two second team selections in sophomore Mason Richtig at pitcher and junior Edward Swanson at infield

Wausaukee and Coleman both placed one on the second team.

Wausaukee's selection was sophomore Connor Schroeder for the infield while Coleman's second team spot was taken by junior Ray LeMieux for the outfield.
