Town Pound Residents Approve Tax Hike for Bridge Project

Residents of the Town of Pound voted to approve a tax levy increase to fund upcoming bridge projects during a special meeting held on Thursday, Aug. 18.

The resolution, which was passed by a 24-7 vote, would allow the town to increase its tax levy by $40,000 to "offset the town's share of the cost of replacing the bridges on N 5th Road and N 1st Road during the next several years and to increase the town road construction budget in forthcoming years due to increased costs."

Buddy Bench Fosters Friendship at Schools

The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on a school playground. It came from an idea by Christian Bucks, a 2nd grader at Roundtown High School, who witnessed lonely classmates at his school playground, and wanted to make sure everyone had a friend. He came up with the buddy bench.

Peshtigo Joins Call For More State Road Aids

In response to a request from the Wisconsin League of Municipalities, the City of Peshtigo's Judiciary Committee on Monday, Aug. 22 approved a resolution calling on Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and the state legislature to "Just Fix It," in regard to transportation funding. In effect, without saying so, the resolution urges the Legislature to consider increasing registration fees, gas tax, or both, or finding some other way to raise money for transportation needs.

The City of Marinette and the School District of Marinette held an informational session for the public on the new recreation center on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the school district office.

City and school district officials and representatives from Robert E. When you think of 4-H, the names of Fay and Harry Bintz come to mind. In their lifetimes, they were deeply involved with Marinette County 4-H, and the County Fair. The Bintz family included four generations of 4-H members from Marinette, Oconto, and Brown counties. Fay was recognized for her 40 years of leadership in 2007 at the 4-H Leaders Banquet.

In the 1960's, Fay joined Dorothy Drewery in the Old Hickory 4-H Club and later she founded the New Horizons 4-H Club where she was a leader for many years. She was active in the 4-H Lea...
