OPEN HOUSE—Over 250 people attended the Grover-Porterfield Open House Saturday, Sept. 20. Those who attended were able to see all the equipment used in firefighting by the department. There were numerous prize drawings along with food and a bake sale. Jim Lund of Peshtigo stopped by for a tour of the department. Lund is the last living member of the group that started the fire department many years ago. Pictured from left are firefighter Mel Hanneman, Scott Tebo, Safety Officer, Tim Kamm, Battalion Chief, Gordy Klimek, Assistant Chief and 88 year old Jim Lund, who served on the fire department for 17 years.

Grover-Porterfield FD Open House a Success

Over 250 people attended the Grover-Porterfield Fire Department open house Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harmony Fire Station, N3895 South Harmony Road. Featured were Valley Flight Med Helicopter, burning room simulation, live auction, bucket raffles, bake sale, bounce house and more.

About 65 children visited the kid corner for a coloring contest. Wesley Rich was the winner.

Peshtigo Historical Day Parade, Events Saturday

The big Peshtigo Historical Day parade and festivities will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 with a new route for the parade.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. with a 10K or 5K run or 5K walk. The 10K run leaves the city limits, following the contour of the Peshtigo River to where the Peshtigo Fire Tower once stood. After a jaunt through the woods, the run returns to the City limits for a lap around Bulldog Stadium,

To Hold Special Airport Meeting On Thursday

Twin County Airport Commission will apparently need to do a re-play of the regular monthly meeting that was held - or not held - on Tuesday, Sept. 16. That meeting has been deemed invalid because Marinette County was never officially notified, although the local news media and the two Marinette County members of the commission were informed.

Peshtigo Town Constable To Issue Citations For Dumping

The Peshtigo Town Board has been looking into the possibility of having electrical service extended to the recycling center. After learning at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 16 that Wisconsin Public Service estimated the cost would be about $14,000, board members decided to look into alternatives instead of spending that much money.

Lena School District Adopts $4.8 Million Budget

The Lena Public School District adopted a $4,850,571.57 operating budget with a projected deficit of $28,379.66 at its Monday, Sept. 22 Annual Meeting. At the Budget hearing just before the Annual Meeting, District Administrator David Honish outlined a budget with $4,822,191.91 in revenues. $1,635,457 will come from taxes, and $2,680.289.00 will come from equalization aid payments from the state of Wisconsin. $99,885 will come from the state’s Sparsity Aid program, while $192,415 will come from other districts because of children in those distr...
