Over 100 Attend Chamber Christmas Tree Lighting Event

A perfect sunny and mild winter afternoon provided the backdrop for the 100 adults and children who attended the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Triangle Park, Peshtigo on Saturday, Dec. 6th. Board Chair Sends 40-Week Petition Back To Committee

Agenda for the Marinette County Board meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16 included consideration of a petition signed by 17 of the 30 supervisors asking that they discuss and consider requiring all county salaried employees to work 40 hours per week as adopted by the WIPFLI Compensation plan, or work 35 hours per week at a prorated wage, effective Jan. 1, 2015.

Town Peshtigo OKs $1,000 A Year Raise For Fire Chief

There were about 35 persons on hand for the brief monthly meeting of Peshtigo Town Board and the annual Town Potluck Christmas party that followed on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The board again approved $25 as the price of an annual waste haulers permit for the town. Clerk Clarence Coble noted that has been the fee for some years, but the amount was never stated in the ordinance. Propose New Type Of Littoral Combat Ship

U.S. Department of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Thursday, Dec. 10, announced his decision on the small surface combat ship (SSC) designs that would succeed the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).

The SSC would be a larger version of the current LCS being constructed at Marinette Marine in Marinette and Austal in Mobile, Ala.

Upgrades to the existing LCS to create the SSC could add $60 million to $75 million to the cost of the current LCS. The proposal is not expected to affect the current LCS contract.

Riverside Cemetery To Choose Trustees, Set Rules In February

The quarterly meeting of Riverside Cemetery Association Board of Directors on Tuesday, Dec. 15 again included a considerable amount of participation from the audience. Much of the discussion centered on pay for Secretary/Treasurer Don Richter and income and accounting issues, with board members again requesting quarterly reports on what money came in and from whom, and what checks were written and to whom.
