County Board Favors First Step To Ending Airport Partnership

Like a good marriage that’s gone bad, the Marinette/Menominee County partnership in Twin County Airport that led to many improvements at the facility in Menominee may be coming to an end. At its meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24, Marinette County Board took the first step toward dissolution. By 25 to 4 vote, they authorized Corporation Counsel Gale Mattison to notify Menominee County of Marinette County’s desire to negotiate discontinuing partnership with Menominee County in the Twin County Airport.

Oconto Co. Board Salutes Retiring Finance Director

At the start of the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, Oconto County Board Chair Lee Rymer presented certificates of appreciation to three Oconto County employees in appreciation of their outstanding service to the citizens of Oconto County - Kalvin Kostreva, 16 years; Lynette Bodoh, 34 years, and Finance Director Terry Hinds who is retiring after 24 years with Oconto County.

Sheriff: Prisons Full, State Will Ask Counties to Help

Wisconsin state prisons are full, but the state has neither the money nor the political will to build any more, Sheriff Jerry Sauve told the Marinette County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee at its monthly meeting on Friday, Feb. 20. Sauve had just returned from a 2-day conference of the Badger State Sheriff’s Association in Madison. He said according to Edward F. Wall, who heads the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, the state will soon be reaching out to sheriffs as far north as Douglas County to house prisoners in their jails.

City Still Seeks Sponsors For Ball Field Name Rights

What would it be worth for a business to have its name attached to one of the four baseball fields owned and operated by the City of Peshtigo? Each field has a number, but months ago, in an attempt to raise funds for improvements at the fields, the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee decided to offer “naming rights” for $25,000 for five years, payable in $5,000 annual segments.
