CHRISTENS LCS DETROIT—With a crowd of approximately 1,000 persons looking on, the future LCS Detroit was launched into the Menominee River at the Marinette Marine Shipyard Saturday, Oct. 18. The USS Detroit, the nation’s seventh Littoral Combat ship, created a huge wave as it slipped into the water. It rocked once, straightened, then partially rocked again before settling upright into the water. Marinette Marine officials commented they were glad the river water level is high, as it makes the launch smoother. The Detroit is one of five LCS currently under construction at the Marinette shipyard. Following the christening and launch, the Detroit will continue to undergo outfitting and testing before delivery to the Navy in 2015.

LCS Detroit Launch Makes Big Splash

When commissioned, she will be the fourth USS Detroit to serve the United States Navy.

The launch ceremony marks Marinette Marine’s fourth christening of an LCS, but was the first for Jan Allman, since she became Marinette Marine Presi...

Town of Peshtigo Works Out “No Increase” Budget

“We balanced the budget...The tax rate is going to stay exactly the same,” Peshtigo Town Chair Herman Pottratz declared with satisfaction as the Town Board completed a half-hour budget workshop session prior to its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Starting with a budget that called for $17,199.75 more in expenses than was provided in revenues, the board trimmed here and tweaked there, with Treasurer Vilas Schroeder tallying numbers. With the budget already tight, there were not many places to trim.

They removed the ...
