Robert Chaltry Named New Grover-Porterfield Fire Chief

Robert Allen (Bob) Chaltry is the new fire chief for the Grover- Porterfield Fire Department. He was voted in by the Grover-Porterfield Fire Commission in December and officially took over on Jan. 1. Wade Larsen, who was fire chief for 17 years decided to step down as chief and remain a firefighter.

Pound Terminates Public Works Director Kevin Schutte As Village Employee

After meeting in closed session near the end of its regular monthly board meeting on Monday, Jan. 13 Pound Village Board returned to open session and by unanimous roll call vote with all members present approved a motion made by Village President Terry Earley and seconded by Trustee David Navis that stated:

LaVigne Sentenced To 5-Year Prison Term For Sex Assault

Issue Date: January 17, 2020

Jason R. LaVigne, 47, of Appleton, a former high school teacher in Fox Valley area, will be spending the next 10 years in prison followed by 16 years on extended supervision after being convicted of sexual assaults on two teenage girls following jury trials in Marinette and Outagamie County Circuit courts.

His sentence by Judge James Morrison in Marinette County Circuit Court was for five years in prison followed by 5 years of extended supervision, consecutive to the sentence for the Outagamie County conviction.

Peshtigo's Gail Bantes is Assembly Hometown Hero

The Wisconsin State Assembly will recognize Gail Bantes of Peshtigo as a "Hometown Hero at the upcoming Assembly session on Jan. 15th.

Bantes, who was nominated by her State Representative, John Nygren (R-Marinette), pushed two girls to safety before being hit herself by an SUV while acting as a crossing guard in Peshtigo School District last February. Because of her quick and selfless thinking, Bantes was also nominated for the national America's Favorite Crossing Guard Contest.
