HOLD CEREMONY"Members of the Marinette American Legion Post 39 held a ceremony to honor the POW/MIA soldiers from all wars Friday, Sept. 16 at Marinette City Hall. Gary Ziech, chaplain gave the opening prayer and Adjutant Mike McGowan, was the main speaker. McGowan also presented the missing man table symbolism. Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot also said a few words during the ceremony. Lloyd Angwall, new post commander, was introduced and spoke about the sacrifice our military makes. McGowan Speaks at POW/MIA Recognition

The Marinette American Legion Post 39 held an event for POW/MIA Recognition Day at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15 in the Marinette City Hall Council Chambers. The event reflected on sacrifices made by military men and women who are recognized prisoners of war (POWs) or missing in action (MIA) from all war eras.

Each year, the third Friday in September is set aside to honor the commitment and the sacrifices made by the nation's Prisoners of War and those who are still Missing in Action, as well as their families.

Work on Marinette County Wage Study is Nearly Done

Work related to the Carlson-Dettman Wage Study for Marinette County employees is now nearly complete, Marinette County Administrator John LeFebvre reported to County Board at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19. LeFebvre said there had been 138 county positions defined and placed in the Carson Dettman study, and 21 of those placements were appealed.

No Action On Proposal For MCABI To Take On Tourism

At a brief noon hour business meeting between tours of several manufacturing facilities, Marinette County Board's Economic Development and Tourism Committee considered asking the semi-independent Marinette County Association for Business and Industry (MCABI) to take over responsibility of marketing tourism in the county.

Twin County Airport License In Jeopardy

The Peshtigo Times has learned that the general utility operating license for Twin County Airport in Menominee appears to be in jeopardy. The Menominee County Airport Committee was informed on Tuesday, Sept. 19 that an FAA/Michigan DOT safety inspection last week revealed some critical obstructions . Trees that were identified as possible obstructions at the last inspection have not been removed, and apparently will need to be removed.

Peshtigo Water & Sewer Weighs Sewer Rate Increase

The City of Peshtigo's Water & Sewer Committee discussed the possibility of raising rates on sewer quarterly fixed meter charges during a meeting held on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The proposed plan would increase rates by 5.3645 percent. For the 1,247 five-eights-inch water meters, the base rate would increase from $24.25 to $25.55 and total base charges would hike from $30,239.75 to $31,860.85. For the 43 one-inch water meters, the base rate would increase from $50.93 to $53.66 and total base charges would go up from $2,189.99 to $2,307...
