Night Out Fun-The City of Marinette's annual National Night Out on Stephenson Island was another success according to organizers. Food booths were busy feeding the several hundred people that attended as well as the many displays of emergency equipment and vendors that were present. Top Photo-Town of Peshtigo Assistant Fire Chief, Rich Seils is pictured answering questions many of the kids asked. He explained to the group how firefighters haul and pump water at fires. Marinette National Night Out Enjoyed By Many

The City of Marinette's National Night Out was held Tuesday, Aug. 7 on Stephenson Island from 4 to 8 p.m. Many displays were available including Enstrom Helicopter, Emergency vehicles, informational displays, K-9 demonstrations, Fire Safety House, DAR Boys & Girls Club Duck Race, air jumper, slide games, food, prizes, water-ball tournament for ages 8-14 and children 12 and under had a chance to win a bike.

There were 30 kids who participated in the water-ball tournament which was run by the Marinette Fire Department.

Court Battles Continue Over Back Forty Mine

Efforts continue on several fronts to halt development of the controversial Back Forty Mine near the banks of the Menominee River in Stephenson Township, Mich., about 15 miles upstream from the cities of Marinette and Menominee and the mouth of the river into the waters of Green Bay and Lake Michigan.

Peshtigo Council Okays 3% Water Rate Increase

Issue Date: August 9, 2018

With obvious reluctance, Peshtigo City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 7 approved application to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for a Simplified Rate Case request for a three percent increase in water rates. The vote was four to one in favor, with Alderman John Berendt casting the sole opposing vote. Alderman Debbie Sievert was absent.

When the rate increase came up on the Council agenda Alderman Mike Behnke's motion for approval was followed by a long silence.

OK Plans For Added Officer, Full Time Medical Examiner

Issue Date: August 9, 2018

Among a long list of items on the agenda for its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 7, Marinette County Board's Public Services Committee approved making the new Medical Examiner position full time for whoever is hired to replace long-time Coroner George Smith when his elected position ends in January of 2019. Earlier this year County Board voted to eliminate the elected coroner position and replace it with a medical examiner.

City Considers Format For Filing Complaints

Issue Date: August 9, 2018

During a long closed session on Wednesday, Aug. 1, the City of Peshtigo's Personnel Committee reviewed nine applications for Police Chief and selected five candidates to be called in for interviews. Names were not released.

Sgt. Rick Badgley, a veteran member of the Peshtigo Police Department, has been serving as interim chief since the resignation of former Police Chief Joe FitzGerald became effective on June 29.
