Local Officials Participate in Law Enforcement Service

The Marinette County Sheriff's Department along with the Marinette Police Department held a Law Enforcement Memorial service at the Marinette County Courthouse, Tuesday May 15.

The pledge of allegiance was led by Sheriff Jerry Sauve and welcome remarks were given by Lt. Jason Ducane. Police Chaplain, Matthew DeCleene presented the opening prayer and reflection. Rick Rickaby Resigns As Highway Commissioner

Marinette County Highway Commissioner Rick Rickaby is resigning to accept a position in the private sector. His last day on the job will be Thursday, May 24.

Rickaby has worked for the County Highway Department since July of 2012 and was a construction maintenance supervisor before being promoted to the Highway Commissioner position last September. Wagner Has Full Board For Regular Meeting

The recently reorganized Wagner Town Board held its first regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9. It was called to order by Chair Kurt Konell, who was appointed on Monday, May 7 to fill the chair position vacated when former chair Lynn Hickey resigned at the April 18 regular town board meeting.

Porterfield Plans To Form Zoning/Land Use Committee

Partly in response to recent controversy over siting of a non-metallic mine (a limestone gravel pit) adjoining a residential subdivision on the Menominee River off Hwy. 180 near the end of County Hwy. G, the Porterfield Town Board on Wednesday, May 9 took some unofficial first steps toward forming a Land Use and Zoning Committee.

One of the first assignments of that committee would be to devise ways to regulate location and operation of mines, both metallic and non-metallic, in the future.

Republican Party of Marinette County Chairwoman Shirley Kaufman received the Alvan E. Bovay Award on May 12 at the Republican Party of Wisconsin State Convention in Milwaukee. Alvan E. Bovay was the founder of the Republican Party.
