Once again, the Coleman baseball team's dominating performance in conference play has been reflected in the voting amongst M-O coaches for the all-league team of 2013.

Picked as co-players of the Year, Derek Marquardt and Mason Mergener wrapped up their Coleman high school diamond careers with top honors. Picked to the first team as an outfielder, Marquardt sported a .419 average at the plate while also pitching his way to a 4-0 record from the mound. Mergener was...

Doubleheader Split Caps Busy Week For Marinette

Talk about a busy week!

Playing 7 games in six days, the Marinette Legion team came up victorious three times to run their season readout to 4-6.

Competing in the Father’s Day Tournament in Green Bay, Marinette fell twice to Ash-Port 9-3 and 6-1, lost to Escanaba 3-0 while chalking up wins over the Green Bay Shockers 9-2 and the Appleton Doubledays 2-0.

Marinette capped the busy week by splitting a doubleheader Tuesday with DePere 17-U, losing 5-3 before prevailing in the nightcap 5-4.

Oconto Captures State Title

Slips Past Westby 4-3 For First Championship In School History

The fourth trip proved to be a charm as Oconto captured the school’s first-ever state championship in any sport with a nail-biting 4-3 win over Westby (21-5) in the Division 3 finals Thursday. The victory, coupled with an identical 4-3 besting of Osseo-Fairchild (16-8) Wednesday in the semifinals, put the finishing touches on a brilliant 16-4 diamond campaign. And of course, the school’s first gold trophy.

Rangers Roughed Up In State Semifinals

3 Hurlers Dish Out 9 Walks In 11-1 D-4 Loss

With a trio of hurlers having difficulty locating the plate, the Wausaukee Rangers saw their dream of a state title end in an 11-1, 5-inning semifinal setback at the hands of eventual champion Greenwood (16-3). Greenwood beat Lake Country Lutheran in the Division 4 finals Thursday 6-4.

Wickman Repeats As MVP

Sara Wickman's numbers for the 2013 campaign speak for themselves. In conference play, the newly crowned M-O Player of the Year sported a blistering .613 average at the plate for Sue Stoltenberg's 9-1 Wausaukee Rangers. She cranked three home runs and tallied a team-high 22 runs batted in with five doubles, 11 singles and a triple. Such is the cumulative stat sheet for a two-time conference Player of the Year.
