Thunder on a Roll; Claim Four More Wins

The M&M Thunder went 4-0 over the course of the weekend, defeating Marquette/Negaunee twice on Sunday, Feb. 11, also beating Dodgeville and Verona.

The games against Marquette/Negaunee finished 3-1 and 8-5. In the first game, Wes Knutson got two goals, while Jeremiah Phillips had one. Cole Jersey added an assist, as did Brandon Bruning.

Braeden Park saved seven of eight shots he saw.

In the second game, the Thunder led 3-2 after a period and went into the third period up 5-4 before a 3-1 third period.

Coleman Wins D3 Regional; Advance 12 to Sectional

The Coleman Cougars are sending 12 wrestlers to sectionals following their home regional on Saturday, Feb. 10, while Gillett/Suring will be sending two.

Koltin Grzybowski (113), Caleb Gross (120), Sam Kuchta (132), Jake Baldwin (138), Bryce Karban (145), Shamus McLain (152), John Bieber (160) and Jacob Zeitler (220) all won their weight classes to advance, while Billy Ganter (126), Ty Blanchard (170), Blake Forner (182) and Brock Martinson (285) all placed second to move on to sectionals.

Crivitz Takes Half Game Lead Into Final Week

Tigers Top Wolverines In M&O Showdown

In a match that both team wanted to win and sorely needed to win the Gillett Tigers topped the number one ranked Crivitz Wolverines 59-44.

Then Tigers were focused and it showed as they jumped to a 25-19 lead at the half.

During that first half Gillett's Taylor Yonker decided she was going to live and die by the three and boy she lived, getting a triple helping of three pointers. Teammate Kaitlyn Schaal was also on point hitting for seven points.

Bulldog Defense Upsets Clippers

Peshtigo beat Sturgeon Bay 66-47 on Thursday, Feb. 8 behind a big second half where they scored 39 points and a stifling defense that held the Clippers to 30 percent shooting.

No Clipper that attempted more than two shots finished the night shooting over 38 percent from the field. Sturgeon Bay's leading scorer was Carson Talbert, who got 13 on 3-10 shooting. Mitchell Jackson finished with eight, making one of his nine attempts from the field.

Bay Area Youth Rugby Expanding

After creating rugby opportunities for over 300 boys and girls between 1997 and 2017, The Bay Area Barbarians High School Boys Rugby team saw an opportunity to expand their educational mission, and align with statewide efforts in Wisconsin in 2018. The youth rugby program renamed itself "Bay Area Rugby" and plans to add High School Girls 7-on-7 rugby as well as 7th & 8th Grade rugby, to their menu of player options this coming spring, which will also include High School Boys 15-on-15.
