WIAA Announces Fall Sportsmanship Recipients

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, in cooperation with Rural Mutual Insurance Company, selected the team Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2014 Fall State Championships.

The winners of the State Team Tournament Sportsmanship Awards are Marathon in girls volleyball, Menomonee Falls in boys soccer, Pepin/Alma in football, University School in girls team tennis and Arrowhead in boys volleyball.

DNR Puts Aside Proposal to Stock Big Green Lake with Atlantic Salmon

After reviewing more than 50 submitted comments on a draft environmental impact statement, studying testimony presented at a public hearing and considering a wide variety of fisheries data, the DNR has tabled a proposal to stock Big Green Lake with landlocked Atlantic salmon until additional data on the fish community, specifically cisco, can be gathered.

Crivitz Players Top Scorers in Hoops Club

Marinette Hoops Club 4th graders played eight games Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Marinette Middle School gym. Sarah Johnston is sports coordinator.

Crivitz A which defeated Marinette A 32-13 was led by AJ Lieuwen with 16 points and Cashton Mertens added 12. Two points each were from Seth Sellen and Evan Rogers. Marinette was led by Tanner Fayta with 8 points, Harrison Chenier had 3 points and Ayden Anderson added 2 points.

Gillett/Suring Matmen Fall To Tough Southern Door Crew

The Gillett/Suring wrestling team, comprised of athletes from two M-O schools whose enrollment numbers don’t support separate squads, took wins in five of the 12 bouts on tap last Thursday at home, falling to the Eagles as a team by a final tally of 48-27.

Lake Michigan Yellow Perch Comments Chart Next Steps

Following a late October meeting that drew some 65 citizens concerned about Lake Michigan’s declining yellow perch population, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will form a team to investigate options for stocking and habitat improvement to restore near-shore yellow perch fisheries in the river estuaries and harbors in Milwaukee and possibly other Wisconsin Lake Michigan ports.
