From our readers Letter to the Editor:
It is sad to see that many School Districts in Michigan and Wisconsin appear to be more concerned with the school buildings than with the education of our kids. Seldom if ever do School Boards, Administrators and Principals ask taxpayers for money to improve or increase educational offerings instead they ask for money to do what used to be considered routine maintenance on buildings, major repair to buildings, equipment updates, building replacement, etc.
When they want more taxp ayer money they suddenly want everyone to know what is going on, never mind what they have been doing for the past 10+ years which is keeping every one in the dark. All you need to do is look at the gibberish printed in the newspaper and handed out at annual meetings that they call a budget. I dont think most of the school board members understand the budget. What the taxp ayers really might like to know are the following annual costs:
1. teachers salaries
2. support staff salaries
3. administrators salaries
4. teachers benefits
5. support staff benefits
6. administrators benefits
7. utilities
8. building maintenance
9. building improvements
10. student transportation
11. school vehicles other than busses
12. sports
13. Interest being paid and what the notes are for, balance remaining, etc.
14. large capital improvements
Im sure there are additional items that could or should be added to the above list and perhaps some of the items could be subdivided in the interest of transparency of the true cost of education and where the money goes for the kids.

Crivitz
To the Editor:
The River Cities Community Pool Association thanks all 77 Plungers who took part in the second annual Da Yooper Plunge by jumping into the freezing waters of Green Bay on New Years Day. The Plungers were cheered on by an estimated 500 spectators.
A special thank you to sponsors who donated to the event: Twin City Trucking, who cleared the ice from the beachfront; K&K Integrated Logistics, who cleaned the beach; Bob Berg, Dave Boucher, Rick Kama and Dale Hornick of M&M Diving for safeguarding the Plungers during the event; Menominee Fire Department, Menominee Police, Auxiliary Police and Rescue Squad for braving the winter conditions and monitoring and ensuring the safety of the Plungers; news media for their coverage; and judges Mary Johns, Jean Stegeman and Sam Hofer.
We also thank the many volunteers and sponsors for their time, effort and teamwork. It was exciting to see so much community spirit on a cold and snowy Packer Sunday.
For more information regarding River Cities Community Pool Association programs and membership as well as the third annual Da Yooper Plunge, stop by the pool at 1125 University Drive, Marinette.
Again, we extend a warm thank you to everyone who had a part in making Da Yooper Plunge a success.
Sincerely,
Steve Wolfe,
RCC Board Member
and Event Coordinator
Editor:
When Jesus disciples asked Him what the signs would be of the end of the age, part of His reply was, Because lawlessness is increased, most peoples love will grow cold. Matthew 24:12
This January, in the United States, we again sadly remember the devastating decision so long ago that legalized abortion. Here in 2012, after millions of murders of the unborn, Jesus words ring so true. There could not be a more poignant example of love grown cold than when we continue to end the lives of the unborn. We who fail to protect and defend the helpless. How can it be? Doctors who take the lead in the destruction, not preservation, of life. Unthinkable, but true.
In my opinion, the destruction and disintegration of the United States began with this Supreme Court decision. And the clock ticks on today. The sanctity of life is being lost with each proceeding generation and a vile viciousness spreads across the land. Will we as a nation come to our senses in time, or will we slide further into decadence, violence and ultimately extinction as so many nations before us? Will God have mercy on us or will He pay us back in kind?
I used to think that someday when each one stands before God and gives account of their life in the final judgment that opinions would change, but I am not so sure. In Matthew 25:30 Jesus mentions two types of attitudes people will have when sent to everlasting punishment, ...there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Some will recognize the depth of their sin and depravity and weep, although too late. But some will look into the faces of the unborn they did away with and feel nothing. In fact, they will leave the presence of the Lord, their judge, with hate and their selfish indulgence still intact, no remorse. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. Galatians 6:7
Is there hope for our nation? I pray it is not too late. Is there hope for the individual? Without a doubt, yes. Jesus died to save sinners, which we all are. If you have been deceived by the worlds view of life and had any part in abortion, there is hope for you. Come to Him, the one described in 2 Peter 3:9, The Lord... is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as the snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool. Isaiah 1:18
If we repent of sin, of any and all kinds, and ask the Lords forgiveness, He gives this promise, As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12. As long as you have breath and a heartbeat, you still have time, the choice is yours and yours only.
Sincerely,
Jerry Parker,
Marinette
