From our readers

To the Editor:

Our 8th Congressional District Representative, Reid Ribble, is in lock-step with House Republicans. He plays “follow the leader” without giving any thought to what is best for his constituents.

As is his custom, Ribble recently “followed the leader” by voting with John Boehner’s House Republicans in favor of the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2012, a bill presented by GOP leaders supposedly to deal with surface transportation funding. The bill would cut $61.5 million of funding for Wisconsin - an 8% decrease - and move the money to other states. Rep. Tom Petri (Fond du Lac, 6th Congressional District), a Republican colleague of Ribble’s, voted against the measure, saying, “They’re taking jobs from Wisconsin and giving them to other states.” Ribble, characterized the bill as a “loser” for Wisconsin, yet knowing that the bill would hurt his constituents, voted for it.

Mr. Ribble’s wrong decision regarding the American Energy and Infrastructure Act, Governor Walker’s silly decision earlier rejecting federal funds for high speed rail, and the fact that Wisconsin - even as the economy is steadily improving - now has the second lowest job growth rate in the United States, prove that Republican claimed efforts about creating jobs are nothing more than deceptions. Reid Ribble, like so many Republicans in both Washington and Madison, is “following the leader” and we are paying the price. Don’t be fooled!

Did you vote for Reid Ribble in 2010? In November, you will have the chance to make things right. In November, we need to elect Jamie Wall, a candidate who will represent you and not play “follow the leader.”

Thomas P. Schwaba

Editor:

I received the following note from an individual. It read: I used to go to church but don’t anymore because I’ve done something very wrong and feel guilty. How do I get rid of this guilt? I want to go to church and enjoy it.

My answer was: I’m glad to hear that but want you to know you’re not solving your problem by not going to church. The answer rests in facing the problem and dealing with it. The problem isn’t your guilt feelings, the problem is you’ve done something wrong and you need God’s forgiveness. No matter how much you hide or suppress your guilt feelings, you still are guilty of wrongdoing and need to deal with the guilt.

The most important truth is you don’t need to carry the burden of your guilt because God wants to forgive you and lift that burden from you! It’s possible because God loves you and sent His love to you through His Son, Jesus Christ, and took the burden you’re now carrying upon Himself when He died on the cross (and every sin you’ve ever committed and ever will). The Bible says, “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross so we might die to our sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.” (I Peter 2:24) Not will be, but “have been” already, healed.

God’s salvation is a free gift offered to you and all people through Jesus Christ. You or I could never take our own sins away, but Christ could and did, so why not receive that free gift? There’s no reason for you to bear the burden of guilt when He’s already borne it for you. Whenever you sin, you need to turn to Christ in repentance and faith and accept His forgiveness. If you haven’t invited Jesus Christ into your heart yet why not do it today?

There’s no greater joy than knowing your sins are forgiven; God loves you no matter what. I John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and ‘cleanse’ us from all unrighteousness.”

Thanks for your letter and start today by receiving that forgiveness that’s already yours; it’s free. Have a Godly day, for what good is a day if it isn’t Godly?
