Raatz Is Lone Survivor On Links The tournament links proved awfully tough for area golfers as Gillett senior Raatz is the only area player to make his way to state. Raatz shot a runner-up score of 82 at the Division 3 Marathon sectional and qualify as an individual.
The first two teams and top 3 individuals who are not members of a qualifying team in each sectional, advance to the state meet.
The state classic is slated for June 4-5 at University Ridge in Madison
No Survivors In
Division 2 Field
The area’s two entrants into the Division 2 Little Chute sectional at Fox Valley Golf Course, Marinette and Peshtigo, finished 11th and 12th and were left out of the state running.
Notre Dame won the meet with a 329 followed by Ripon 338, Mosinee 345, Roncalli 346, Luxemburg-Casco 347, Berlin 349, Xavier 351, Wrightstown 356, Southern Door 367, Wautoma 375, Marinette 376 and Peshtigo 388.
Medalist on the day was Jim Liddy of Notre Dame with a 73 while Ryonen Faris of Ripon added a 78.
Marinette was paced by Tyler Philipps with a 92 (45-47) and finished 46th overall followed by Mitch Francois 94 (46-48), Bradley Thielen 94 (42-52) and Andy Swanson 96 (44-52).
Mitchell Behnke put together a 20th place score of 87 for Peshtigo (43-44), Nick Miles 96 (45-51), Jordan VanBeek 101 (54-47) and Marcus Behnke 104 (49-55).
“Not a great day for the Bulldogs...wind and nerves played a big role in the outcome. The sectional was good experience for us...showed we must improve and work on our games over the summer if we want to make the next step. Nick Miles played in his last high school match and the senior played well on the front 9 but could not hold on to it on the back. We tried to play without any big numbers, just wanted to make bogeys and pars. However, even M-O medalist, Mitchell Behnke couldn’t stay away from the double bogeys,” Peshtigo coach Pete Kretz said. “The team returns four juniors and freshmen for next year.”
Raatz Collects
Tee Time In D-2
Gillett senior Tyler Raatz will be closing out his prep golf career at the WIAA state meet following a second place finish in the Division 3 sectional played at Pine Valley Golf Club in Marathon. Raatz carded rounds of 39-43 to post a round of 82.
Sevastopol won the sectional with a 352, Gibraltar 357, Pacelli 359, Coleman 361, Newman Catholic 364, STAA 366, Crandon 375, Iola-Scandinavia 378, Assumption 380, Niagara 382, Laona 404 and Pembine 416.
Top score of the meet was put together by Steve Maes of Pacelli with an 81, Raatz shot 82 and Laona’s Eric Rosio 83.
Coleman was lead by Steve Kilmer with an 87 (43-44), Alex Tisler 90 (48-42), Richard Geimer 91 (46-45) and Dan Pillath 93 (48-45).
Top scores for STAA were turned in by Lexi Wilson 90 (47-43) and Mike Schmidt 90 (45-45), Nathan Faucett shot 93 (43-50) and Casey Boyle 93 (46-47).
Niagara had a trio of golfers with 90’s...TJ Liebergen (45-45), Colin Anderson (47-43) and Zach Zychowski (45-45) while Joey Coppens added a 112 (54-58).
Hunter Keeley topped Pembine with a 94 (47-47) followed by Zac Szprejda 105 (49-56), Anthony Schiefelbein 108 and Jason Retulowski 109.
Wausaukee’s Wyatt Tilkens, who qualified for the sectional as an individual, shot a 106 (53-53).
