THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
From our readers
Letter to Editor:
In a Letter to the Editor, published June 20 in the Peshtigo Times, Rep. Nygren suggested that in the announcement of my candidacy for the office of Register of Deeds, I claimed that candidates with knowledge of the office were passed over. Well, they were. As was reported in Milwaukees Journal Sentinel on April 20, 2011, the appointment passed over three candidates with detailed knowledge of how the office of the register of deeds works in favor of one who has said she is a quick learner whose plan is to go in and gather all the information I can and learn everything possible as quickly as possible.
Rep. Nygren further suggests that it would seem that this is a case of sour grapes and entitlement. Maybe he missed my statement that even though I was a finalist, I expected that the Chief Deputy in the office would have been selected. I would suggest that this is a case of disappointment for the citizens of Marinette County. Disappointment that the office was placed in the hands of someone unfamiliar with real estate and vital records.
Rep. Nygren has pointed out that I am an active member of the Democratic Party and that the Register of Deeds is a partisan position. I would hope that he is not suggesting that the election should be framed as a Republican versus Democrat issue. I would rather Republicans and Democrats figure out how to work together for the best interest of those they were elected to represent. As for party affiliation versus knowledge and experience, I would hope that the voters of Marinette County would vote for knowledge and experience.
Rep. Nygren stated No requirements or previous experience are required to be elected and that the Register of Deeds is elected by the people. Why not elect the candidate with detailed knowledge and experience as opposed to a self-proclaimed quick learner? It is the voters choice.
I have been the Deputy Register of Deeds in both Marinette and Menominee Counties. I bring over 35 years of experience working with the records of the office of the Register of Deeds as both an owner and a manger of Abstract and Title Insurance businesses, and as an employee of the office of the Register of Deeds.
