Big Wausaukee Parade, Many Fun Events Planned For July 7

Wausaukee—The Wausaukee 4th of July celebration will be held Saturday, July 7. The parade which starts at 1 p.m. includes kids decorated bikes, wagons, baby buggies, etc. Craft booths will be set up in the alley and side of the Legion Hall. Anyone interested should call 920-362-2128.

Bingo begins at 11 a.m. and food and refreshments will be available for purchase. Darryll’s Famous Fish Pond and French fries will be near the Legion Hall.

The Wausaukee Lions Club will serve brats and hamburgers from their chuck wagon behind Bank North beginning at 11 am. Popcorn will also be sold before and during the parade with proceeds going to Pastor Fred’s Food Pantry.

Tickets for the holiday raffle and fundraiser will be available. Only 800 tickets will be sold with a total payout of $2,000. First prize is $1,000, second is $500, third and fourth are $100 each; fifth through eighth are $50 each and ninth through 12th winners each get $25. The drawing will be held at Newingham’s in Wausaukee on Sept. 3rd.

The Maroszek Polka Band will play live music all afternoon. Fireworks will be displayed at dusk.

The three parade marshals are Cora Gavigan, Judge James Morrison and Marine S/Sgt. Robert Warren of Peshtigo.

Gavigan of Wausaukee is serving as 9th District President of the American Legion Auxiliary for 2010-12. The district represents eight counties, with a total of 42 Posts. Membership of units is 2,855.

Judge Morrison was appointed to the Marinette County Circuit on March 1, and began serving on March 12. Prior to that he practiced with Topel, Jabas & Faller in Marinette from 1976 to 1977, then he and Jabas formed the law firm of Jabas & Morrison, S.C. which currently exists under the name of Morrison Law Firm.

Morrison served as secretary of the Marinette County Bar Association, was a board member and president of Goodwill Industries for 5 years, and board member and chair of Wisconsin Judicare Board representing Marinette and Oconto Counties for 6 years.

He was also a member of the board of the Marinette Area Chamber of Commerce, Marinette Kiwanis for 10 years, founding member in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program in Marinette, two term board member of Marinette-Menominee County Foundation, United Way Board, appointed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, taught at NWTC in Marinette, and is currently adjunct faculty member at UW-Marinette. He was also a municipal attorney for Marinette and Coleman and other area town, village and school boards and has been lawyer for numerous individuals and businesses.

Marine S/Sgt. Warren returned home from his last combat deployment to Afghanistan on June 22. He has had five combat deployments since 2004 and earned his third Navy Commendation. This is in addition to a bronze star, Purple Heart and Combat Action ribbons with Combat ‘V’ Devices.

Warren commanded his rifle platoon in 2010 when a Lt. Zimmerman was killed in action and again in 2012 when Lt. Wood was seriously wounded in action.

His other accomplishments are combat medical training in the U.S. and Canada and an EMT while stationed in Maryland, unarmed combat training in Thailand and Quntigo, Va. for Arabic and Urdu languages. Warren’s primary MOS is 81mm mortars which includes forward fire controller for mortar, artillery fire support and air support.

After 14 years of service he will submit his application to the Marine Corps Warrant Officer Program.

A 2001 Peshtigo High School graduate, he is shown receiving the Purple Heart from Defense Secretary Bill Gates. Warren’s parents are the Bill Warrens of Peshtigo.
