FORE Their Future Golf Group Lures Youngsters To The Links

The final FORE Their Future golf tournament was held at Little River Country Club in Marinette on Friday, August 3. With an entourage of family members and particularly grandparents, a total of 90 young linksters competed from ages 8-18.

“We told the golfers to invite grandparents to come and watch them play and also stay for a free lunch and awards,” Pete Kretz of Little River said.

The FORE group is trying to make golfing more affordable and possible for children of all ages to enjoy. Buying equipment, minimizing financial barriers, setting up tournaments close to home, teaching golfing ettiquete and rules are some of the group’s goals.

The mission for the organization is RICH-respect, integrity, character and honor for young golfers.

Area businesses and individuals have provided financial support to help get the group started in year one. The total number of youth playing has nearly doubled since the first tournament this summer. Other tournaments were held at North Shore and Riverside in Menominee along with Hunters Glen in Crivitz.

The tournament committee used two sets of forward tees to accommodate the different playing abilities of the young golfers. The par-3’s ranged from 30-100 yards, par-4’s 125-200 and par-5’s from 150-250 yards. The older players hit from the normal red and white tees.

The top three scores for girls 8-9 were Dalanie Langlois 52, Maija Carriveau 56 and Sydney Lund 70; boys Bryson Mercier 34, Ty Kretz 40 and Kelten Hermanson 43; girls 10-11 Kailyn Chenier 60, Michelle Kallestad 67 and Katie Mielke 81; boys Trent Carriveau 39, Kasey Casper 40 and Matt Wagner 42.

Girls 12-13 Ericka Priebe 41, Zoe Smith 51 and Brooke Boyce 59; boys Ryan Deau 48, Devin Connaher 50 and Tyler Lund 51; girls 14-15 Kayla Priebe 39, Megan Philipps 53 and Elizabeth Lange 55; boys Garrett Waloway 37, Dakota Langlois 41 and Adam Scheeneman 46.

Also girls 16-18 Abby Dufrane 39, Kelsey Waloway 42 and Kayla Parthie 54; boys Brad Thielen 37, Tyler Kurowski 38 and Ben Shoup 39.
