8 Members MI Fire Dept. Get 10 Year Awards

It could have been the short agenda, or it could have been the fact that the Town of Middle Inlet monthly board meeting was held at the same time as the Packer/Bear game, but either way the meeting was done in the near record time of 20 minutes.

However, the short meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13 in no way indicates the importance of the matters discussed and decided. The above photo shows eight members of the Town of Middle Inlet Fire Department who were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for their 10 Years on the department. Listed in no particular order are Phillip Jansen, Lisa Nansen, Dean Zempel, Scott Jackson, Bill DeGroff, Terri DeGroff, John Coddington and James Swanson. Not available for the photo were Dick Kubasik and Trish Jackson.

In other matters before the Board, Clerk/Treasurer Charles Stanek reported balances at the end of August were Money Market Account: $146,874.83; General Checking: $500; Cemetery Savings: $9,121.11; Fire Department. Savings: $34,566.03; the Town CD remains at $10,000 and the Cemetery CD is at $27,000. Assets for the period totaled $228,061.97 and vouchers totaling $39,278.19 were approved.

A single operator's renewal license was approved for Gregg Kitchenmaster. After reviewing several ordinances at their last meeting, the Town Board voted to approve ordinances. They are:

Chapter 14 - CITATIONS. Changed the language to read, ““Any Supervisor of the Town of Middle Inlet or designee as so authorized by the Chairperson.”

Chapter 219 - BUILDING CONSTRUCTION. Changed the following sections:

Sec. 219-6. - Motor homes and recreational vehicles; permit fee. - Section (B) shall read: “The permit fee shall be initially set at $50 per unit.”

Sec. 219-8. - Building permits; fees. All references to “Clerk/Treasurer” will be changed to “Building Inspector”.

Sec. 219-8 - Building permits; fees. - Section (A). shall read: A. Fee schedule: Town of Middle Inlet Permit Fees ()

(1) One and two-family dwelling, mobile home/manufactured home: $75; (2) Additions to any existing structure: $35; (3) Other structures: $35; (4) Structure demolition/razed: $25; (5) Commercial structures: $75; (6) Variance request fee: $250. () Additional inspection fees may apply.

Twenty-five ($25) for each Building Permit will be directed to the Town of Middle Inlet Fire Department Savings Account.

Chapter 262 - FIRES AND FIRE PREVENTION. Changed the following: Sec.262-2. - Liability for fire protection costs; fee schedule. -Section (A)(5) shall read: “(5) Fire Department staff: $10 per hour.”

Chapter 430 - VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC. Changed the following: Sec. 430-14. - Erection of official traffic signs; designation of thorough traffic arteries and controlled intersections. Intersection (Controlled with stop signs) “Moonshine Hill Road East and West at McMahon Road and Camp 5 Road.”

The request from the Village of Hobart to issue a resolution backing their request to reopen discussion with the Public Service Commission on Utility Easement Maintenance and Vegetation Management practices was postponed until the next the meeting so that all of the supervisors could study the document.

Stanek reported on a number of communications that were received, including a letter on rummage sales, a letter from the Department of Revenue, an update from ATC indicating that their plans to have the new high power lines in service has been moved from 2014 to 2017, and a “thank you” note from Scott Construction.

Town Chairman Richard Wade reported the road crew has patched potholes, removed low branches, chip sealed, ditched, and did brush work on various town roads. A fallen tree was removed from a roadway and the issue of a stop sign on Sweetheart City Road near CTH X has been taken to the County Highway Committee for advice.

The Board approved the issuance of bids for road construction projects on Lake Mary Road and Thompson Road. There might not be enough money remaining to do both projects. If not, the Lake Mary Road project will be done first and Thompson put off until next year.

The Fire Department reported that a meeting was held with the DNR and that the department responded to one accident, and that they are requesting a meeting with the entire Town Board in order to update the Town's Fire Codes. That meeting was set for Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.

The recently completed Town of Middle Inlet Fireman's Picnic was very successful. The raffle alone brought in over $2,000. The total net income after expenses was $6,803.15. Wade issued a great big “Thank You” to everyone who helped with and supported the picnic.

Supervisor Anthony Magerowski updated the board on recent development at the Recycle Center in Crivitz. The center is looking at possibly moving to a different building that is larger and meets the needs for covered areas.

Under Unfinished Business, Stanek reported that the Near North Municipal Court System is still waiting on the decision of the Village of Wausaukee about joining the court. Once that is in place, the system will be able to move forward.

There was no new business and no elector comments.
