Madsen/Ruleau Spark Peshtigo Gals To Third
With their entire squad comprised of freshmen and sophomores, the Peshtigo Bulldogs girls captured a third place team finish in the Division 2 race at the 56th annual Smiley Invitational in Wausau Saturday.
Little Chute won the meet with a score of 93 followed by Colby/Abbotsford 104, Peshtigo 109, West Salem 110, Kiel 124, Tomahawk 155, Nekoosa/Port Edwards 160, Mosinee 163, Adams-Friendship 222, Northland Pines 270, Parkview 285, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 289, Ladysmith 322, Neillsville 396 and Loyal 406.
Leading the Bulldogs across the finish line were sophomore Anna Madsen with a 4th place time of 16:13 and freshman Saige Ruleau in 6th place at 16:16.
Other times for Peshtigo were Samantha Rauch 31st 17:31, Ryleigh Klaver 33rd 17:35, Carlee Mylener 35th 17:39, Rebekah Sokol 45th 17:58, Claire Stuart 84th 19:47 and Sam Jagielski 95th 20:29.
Andrea Ostenso, a senior from Ladysmith, won the race with a time of 14:49 followed by Jena Williams of Kiel 15:21 and Abbie Botz of Little Chute 15:46.
Division 1 overall winner was Aubrey Roberts of Eau Claire Memorial 14:49 while Megan Tarlton of Wabeno was the D-3 top runner at 15:39.
The Peshtigo boys did not field a complete team, but still saw freshman Tyler Nault claim 7th place in 17:21 and Brad Neumann 78th 20:11.
Charlie Stahl of Shorewood was first at 16:26 followed by Bryan Tomek of Tomahawk 16:31 and Sam Kuhlman of Shorewood 16:52.
Top time in Division 1 was posted by Pat Treach of Eau Claire Memorial 16:58 and D-3 by Andrew Studinski of Marathon at 16:27.
