M-O Netters Post Opening Wins

The opening round of the WIAA volleyball tournament went according to script as the M-O Conference registered 5 wins and 4 losses.

Among the victors were league powers Coleman and Peshtigo, which finished one-two in the final standings.

Coleman swept Tri-County while Peshtigo was forced to play five games before turning back upset-minded Crandon.

Results from Division 3 saw number two seed Wausaukee cruise past White Lake while Niagara and Suring came up with tournament wins.

Sectional play is slated for October 25 and 27 with the state tournament November 1-3 at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Olivia Alloy topped the Marines with 5 kills, Melissa Huempfner 7 assists and Hayley Honeychurch 5 digs.

We struggled with our ball handling and that kept us on defense all night. I think the girls showed at times that they can compete with a top team and that is something we can build on for next year, coach John Swick said.
