Elmer W. Kobus

Elmer W. Kobus, 85, of N. 23rd Rd., Coleman passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at his home.

The son of the late Emil and Minnie (Bieber) Kobus was born February 22, 1927 in the Town of Brazeau. Elmer was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the 2nd Infantry with the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for the Battle of Bloody Ridge and another Bronze Star for the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge.

He was married to Dorothy Schwartz on August 22, 1953 at St. Mary Church, Crivitz. He worked for High Line Construction for about 20 years. Elmer was a welding supervisor for Patz Mfg. Company until his retirement in 1991. His wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death on July 11, 1990. He was a member of the Kalbes-Seewald American Legion Post #280 and the Jerome Rouse VFW Post # 9379. He was a hunter and fisherman, an avid gardener and was known for his garlic.

Surviving are four sons, Richard M. (Nancy) of Cottage Grove, Keith (Leanne) Grzybowski of Pound, Mark of Green Bay and Greg (Sue) of Pulaski; three daughters, Karla (Bob) Thielmann of Green Bay, Marilu (Paul) Stillings of Pound and Doreen Cooney of Green Bay; 12 grandchildren, Dana (Stillings) and husband, Steve Prange; Corey, Cole (Jessica) and Troy Stillings; Robin, Kelley and Blake Thielmann; Ryan and Casey Cooney; Olivia, Madisen and Logan Kobus; a brother, Henry (Carol) Kobus of Green Bay; two sisters, Ella Patz and Helen Zeitler, both of Pound and many nieces and nephews. Also special friends, Bernie and Bruce Borkowski; Jerry Murphy, Bill and Mary Koch, Larry and Kathy Pierquet and Gwen Mortier.

Besides his parents and wife, Dorothy, he was preceded in death by twin daughters, Candace and Constance; two brothers, Chester and Roy Kobus and a sister, Marion Buege.

Relatives and friends may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 235 E. Main St., Coleman from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 with a wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Catholic Church, 228 E. Main St., Coleman from 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1st until time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at the church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Karuhn and Deacon Peter Gard concelebrating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Marinette.
