Dear Editor:

The Wausaukee School District has seen its share of change in the last few years not all of it for the good. Money and financial woe have been at the heart of all the controversy. Beginning with the possible dissolution and continuing with the steady stream of staff and administration turnover, this district needs to find a light at the end of the tunnel of negativity and hardship.

One has to realize though that with that light has to be change and that change needs to take place beginning at the top. Jan Dooley, former teacher and superintendent of Florence schools, was hired in an effort to evoke that change. She was originally hired as K-12 Principal/District Administrator with a salary of $95,000 in 2007. Since that time the Wausaukee Board of Education has seen fit to decrease her responsibilities and increase her salary. She is currently the District Administrator, receiving a salary of $103,707.80 and has the opportunity to accumulate more sick and personal leave per year than the teachers who have lived and worked here twice as long.

She gets $8,707.80 cash in lieu of insurance added to her salary for insurance she does not need because the Florence School District still provides it. If the School District of Wausaukee truly wants change that will benefit the taxpayers and students of the Wausaukee School District, then taxpayers need to become aware of the expenditures and put an end to needless spending authorized by a school board that has not changed hands or ideals for many years.

Richard Wontor,

A Concerned Taxpayer of the

Wausaukee School District

Letter to Editor:

To Peshtigo Public Works:

Nice to see street lights are on in downtown Peshtigo. Christmas lights look good too, but where are the lights on the new bridge? Looks like a black hole at night. Does anyone walk on the bridge at night?

Bob Christian,

Porterfield

To the Editor:

I would like to thank both Senator Dave Hansen and Representative John Nygren for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with the students of Coleman High School. On Wednesday, November 28th, I took 48 Coleman students to the Capitol. While there, both our Senator and Representative spent a lot of time talking with the kids, making sure we were taken care of, meeting us on our tour, arranging a group photo, and posing for several pictures with the students.

Of the 48 students, only 12 had been to see our capitol before. They were amazed by the beauty of the building, but I think were even more amazed at how friendly and open the members of our State Legislature are. Even after the tour, we were invited to stop by and see Senator Hansen’s office, and many of the students asked some tough political questions. Both Democrats and Republicans enjoyed the experience and had a great opportunity to see both sides working together.

Above all else, I think that it is important to put political party membership aside and work for what is best for Wisconsin, what is best for the United States of America, and what is best for our students. Thanks to Senator Hansen and Representative Nygren for making this one of the best tours we have ever had!

Sincerely,

Jeremy B. Brady
