To the Editor:

In regards to the shootings of all the children and adults that were killed in Connecticut, this nation should be looking into what is coming out of Hollywood. The movies that our children are watching are nothing but garbage. There is way too much violence on TV, mostly prime time TV. Our kids see an awful lot of killings and it seems like someone is killed on most programs every night.

There are some good programs on TV, like Wisconsin PBS. They are very educational and entertaining without all the killings. Why can’t our big networks produce pictures with less violence. There also is an awful lot of killing and violence on state and national news.

I really don’t think gun control will have any impact on this problem. We need control over what the movie industry puts on the airways. Many children don’t have supervision when they get home from school, and a lot of them have nothing to do but watch TV.

Many persons who do senseless killing are copying what’s on TV. Even the cartoons have a lot of violence in them.

Times Editor:

“....and His Name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9.6b.

At this Christmas season I wonder why things like the incident that just occurred at the Newtown, CT school have become all too common and appear to be on the increase. More than two thousand years ago the Prince of Peace was born in an unnamed stable with the sole purpose of dying on the cross to save and reclaim mankind from the curse of sin. He came to bring peace to those who believe in Him. Where then is the peace on earth and the good will to men the angels promised to those shepherds so long ago? It certainly does not seem to exist in so many places in our United States, but why?

Could it be that for so many years now our nation has systematically been removing Him, Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace, from every conceivable corner. He is not welcome in our schools, our government, our legal system, our homes and yes, especially in individual lives. He has been replaced by any and everything. We are too busy, too sophisticated, too intellectual, too self-sufficient and too modern to need a savior. In fact, the concept of sin and evil seems rather outdated and foolish to many, until it appears in all its hideousness as it just did in Newtown, CT.

In the name of profit and personal expression we are selling the soul of the nation. The internet, movies, music and video games invade the minds of the young and the impressionable with violence and murder, desensitizing them to death and reality. Since the 1970’s, our secular society has promoted abortion of the unborn. It is not too difficult to realize how some can make this terrible transition: if unborn children are worthless, what makes the ones who are living so valuable?

The heart of our problem is, in fact, the heart. We as a people are becoming hardened and callous to the value of life. Absolute morality is no longer relevant. In the guise of freedom of speech and creativity, everything that is disgusting, evil and destructive is allowed to flourish. At the same time, some groups strain with microscopic diligence to eradicate every last vestige of Christianity and God from our society. Even the word Christmas is under attack. Secular humanism has taken over our schools and institutions of higher learning. The mantra being: “There is no God, no accountability to the Creator... because there is no creator in the first place. Do whatever you please... there are no consequences. Indulge yourself... your desires are paramount in importance.”

There is a segment of society who are determined to have their own brand of peace on earth without God. The words John Lennon penned years ago in his song “Imagine,” how wonderful the world would be without God... are a lie. That concept is THE lie many in this country have bought into. It is destroying us as individuals and as a nation.

Long ago Luke 13:34 reveals the heart of Christ, the Prince of Peace. “O Jerusalem... how often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not have it!” In our world of constantly changing ideas and values, where is no longer a solid foundation to anything, one constant remains. Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, gives individuals today the same offer He gave to ancient Israel. He offers us peace, security and an eternal home with Him if we believe we are sinners in need of a savior and are willing to repent of our rebellion against Him. Each person on earth has an allotted time to live and to believe or reject Him. All the while He waits.... The Prince of Peace waits to grant peace to anyone who will believe in Him. This present violent and self-destructive world will not have the last word.

“Come unto Me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. What better time to come to Him than in this season when we are still able to celebrate His birth? “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27.

Under the leadership of Marinette County Elderly Services Director Pam Mueller Johnson, special programs help senior citizens. They are Nutrition (individual meal sites and homebound), Transportation, Benefit Specialist, Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver and Support, Telecare and CHAIN Reaction Day.

My wife and I have been helped by many of the programs. For example, the CHAIN Reaction Day program this fall did a fantastic job of raking and cleaning up our big yard. Most of these programs are offered at the various locations in Marinette, Peshtigo, Crivitz, Wausaukee, Goodman and Niagara.

Any senior citizen who would like additional information, call 1-800-990-4242.

To the Editor:

Re: Right to Choose

After reading the recent article regarding “Right to Work” it made me think about the logic, or lack thereof, of the liberal left. But first we need to have a better understanding of this concept called “Right to work.”

Right to work is nothing more than allowing workers to choose to belong to a union. The union still exists but instead of forcing employees to make financial contributions to the union, workers can now choose of their own free accord to join the union. Freedom of choice? Isn’t that what the Democrats always propose? if the benefits of belonging to a union are so grand than why are unions upset about providing workers the choice of joining?

This brings up another subject so highly defended by Democrats, the right to choose. Liberals (Democrats) will fight tooth and nail to provide women the so called right to choose when it comes to aborting a human life. So choice in this case is highly sought after and demanded by the Democrats and liberal left. So my question is, if its ok for a woman to choose to abort a baby than why are the Democrats against the same right to choose for the worker? Their logic doesn’t work.

The Democrats fight for the right to choose when it comes to a multitude of their demands but what about those of us who really want the right to choose? I choose to say Merry Christmas but we can’t any longer because we may offend non Christians. I choose to own a gun but this freedom is slowly being trounced upon. I don’t smoke, but I will defend a person’s right to smoke. I defend the person’s right to choose when it comes to educating their children but Democrats won’t allow freedom of choice by limiting the educational voucher programs. This concept of right to choose defended by Democrats is defunct.

Christmas season is upon us, and all around us we read of stories regarding the removal of nativity scenes from the public square. The removal of Christmas trees from nursing homes. God forbid we even say the word Christmas anymore for fear of offending those who demand the right to choose when it fits their needs.

If the right to choose was an important part of the Democrat Party platform then why do they deny our right to choose across all sectors?
