Dear Editor:

I write this letter in absolute disgust and frustration. Over the weekend, the Crivitz Village Hall has once again been vandalized. Some person, or persons, scattered chairs, tables and debris throughout the hall and generally left a mess that will take the village employees all day to clean up. There also is damage to some of the items in the hall. WHY? What possesses anyone to wantonly destroy property that belongs to others?

What has been accomplished by this act? The easiest answer is nothing. The consequences of this act? It likely that the last public building in our community that has been left unlocked will now be locked during non- business hours and no longer easily available for someone to use the restroom if needed, or as a place to warm up on a cold winter night. It will become inconvenient to use the Village Hall after business hours because of the need to secure the building after any meetings or events. This will generate additional costs that will be paid by the taxpayers of our village, all because of another ignorant act of vandalism.

The Village of Crivitz is offering a reward of $250.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved. If you have any information that will assist our officers in bringing those involved in this to justice, please contact the Crivitz Police Department at 715-854-7667 or email the information to Chief Mike Frievalt at mfrievalt@vocwi.com. Any and all assistance will be kept confidential and be truly appreciated.

To the bigger question of why would someone do this—I do not have any answers, but I am concerned about these and other events that are happening in our country. We are a deeply troubled and divided nation and need to look for positive steps to take to restore decency and respect for the lives and properties of others before we destroy ourselves as a nation.

To the Editor:

Thank God there are still conservatives in Congress. There may not be as many as I could wish. There are some conservatives that are not as committed as I could hope for. Imagine for a little while... what if the Republicans did not have a majority in the House or enough senators to filibuster in the senate. How much borrowing would be too much? How much spending would be considered unsustainable? How much over-taxing of job creators would be tolerated?

In Congress, the term spending cuts is used to mean a decrease in the increase of expenses— not actually cutting programs and spending. Fair share is used to justify half the country having almost no federal taxes and the rich paying a higher and higher percentage.

In France, this same philosophy has led to an attempt to get the rich to pay 75% of their income to the government. Anyone can see that this would lead to a quick exit by the rich from France to countries with a more equitable system.

There are conservatives who toy with the idea of forming a third party because some Republicans are not conservative enough. This is like cutting off the nose to spite the face. This feeling is probably what got the worst president we have ever had reelected. Anyone who didn’t vote or voted for someone who had no chance of winning because they did not think Romney conservative enough has to assume partial responsibility for the result of the election.

There are those that say that after all, both parties are spending too much so I might as well support the one that is union friendly, gives me the most entitlements, fill in the blank.

Personally, I will always vote for the ones that slow down the destructive process the most. I love my country and it makes me so sad to see it sinking faster and faster toward self-destruction.

Letter to Editor:

The great magic of Christmas is seeing the joy and excitement on children’s faces. Thank you to the many people, families and children who came to downtown Marinette on Dec. 8 to take part and see the “magic” in action.

Children and families were waiting with great excitement and apprehension as the sounds of the Christmas Parade, sirens and applause made way for Santa down Main Street. There were several floats, and groups of participants dressed in individual Christmas packages (Garfield School), dogs clothed in holiday finery and horses bridled in traditional decorations to fill the cold air with delight. Mayor Denise Ruleau waved to the crowd as she walked the length of the parade route and expressed her pride for the event. At the sight of Santa, following behind as he walked through the crowds greeting the children, nostalgic tears filled the eyes of parents and the gathered crowd. Waving his hand high above the crowd, he made his magical appearance.

At the Stephenson Public Library, the jolly man was helped off the fire truck by the Marinette Fire Department crew, greeted by Mrs. Claus, and made his way through the crowd amid hugs, cheers and photographs. His visit was special to those who “still believe” and inside, his lap was never empty, but filled with the children until his departure. “Friends of The Library” served hot chocolate and filled trays with Christmas cookies throughout the afternoon. Children librarians made sure that each child was given the opportunity to make a special craft to take home, along with their goody bag from Santa.

Stopping by the Welcome Center for a visit with the gathered crowd being entertained by the local band “Senior Moments,” Santa spent a few minutes enjoying the festive spirit. People were enjoying the music, dancing to the tunes, and making the sounds of Christmas come alive. Members of the Marinette Woman’s Club provided and served the hospitality table with cookies and beverages. Holding hands with the children, and making his way to Stephenson Island, Santa and Mayor Ruleau lit the City of Marinette Tree to the delight of those present. It was a beautiful sight to see once again!

Special thanks to the merchants and businesses who donated generous door prizes for the event and open house. You truly made the spirit of Christmas very special.

Most of all, thank you to the people who supported this event and the feeling of Christmas very memorable. May Christmas always be as special as you are and live in your heart all year long.
