Coleman Seeks Another M-O Wrestling Championship

The M-O Conference wrestling title will be up for grabs Thursday night when the Peshtigo Bulldogs (3-0) head to Coleman (2-0) in a battle of unbeaten teams. A victory by the Cougars sews up the 22nd title in 24 years and 10th straight under coach Kevin Casper.

Looking ahead to the Peshtigo match, coach Casper said... “if we wrestle like we are capable of, and nobody gets hurt or sick between now and then, we should be ready. Our kids have really come on as the season progressed and doing a lot better than I originally expected. It will be a tough match as Peshtigo always gives us their best shot.”

Following the title match, Coleman will host Lena-STAA on Thursday, January 24 while Peshtigo has a bye in the final round of M-O competition.

Coleman Uses 9 Pins

To Rout Gillett-Suring

Registering nine pins over 14 bouts, Coleman had no trouble routing host Gillett-Suring Thursday 66-9. The mat muscle displayed by the Cougars was highlighted by a 6 second pin from Trevor Seewald, who just came off being named MVP at the Cutler Classic and 7 pins to open the match for a 42-zip lead.

The quick work by the 145 pound Cougar got the match rolling in a winning direction. Following Seewald’s mini mat workout, Mason Mergener flattened Bryce Cibulka in 2:43 at 152, Dexter Karban topped Austin Flanigan 1:23, Hunter Stodola put in 1:53 to top Tanner Rehm, Collin Kempka 4:25 over Brett Milhans at 182, Isaac Nowak 1:21 over Broden Bennin and CJ Pillath put Tyler Herning on his back in 3:03.

Other Coleman wins came at 106 where Derick Teteak posted a 9-1 win over Hunter Egge, 120 Jensyn Schaal 18-3 over Grant Fischer, 126 Jackson Margis went 5:26 to pin Zack Moede, 132 Marc Lansin 120 pinned Jeremy Cibulka 1:25 and 138 Kevin Lansin decisioned Alex Zeitler 8-3.

“The kids wrestled really well and the two matches we lost, we were very competitive in,” Casper said.

The two victories for Gillett-Suring came at 285 as Sam Schaal pined Coty Rosner in 3:04 and 113 Garret Kohls won 14-13 over Brandon Champagne.

Peshtigo Slips

Past Crivitz To

Stay Perfect

Four pins, a trio of close wins and 2 forfeits proved to be the winning formula as Peshtigo held off Crivitz 45-28 in a battle to stay in first place.

The Bulldogs got even at 6-6 as heavyweight Andy Johnston pinned Zach Timblin in 2:32 and took the lead for good when 120 pounder Bryan Shevy posted a thrilling 2-0 win over Tim Sotka.

The win by Shevy started a string of 24 straight Peshtigo points as Jake Veness followed with a 43 second pin at 126, Hunter Madden went 1:22 to pin Nick Timblin at 132, DJ Messenger clipped Parker DeLosSantos 7-5 138 and Shane Marquardt posted a 2:13 pin over Jed Nelson at 145.

Jake Dobesh gave Crivitz some hope with a 1:52 pin of Tyler Schaetz at 152 only to see Derrik Maye clinch the victory with another 2-0 win over George Beattie at 160.

A forfeit to Nicholas Chapman at 170 and a 12-3 win by Danny Tomaszewski gave Crivitz its final points of the match.

Josh Jansen closed things out for the Bulldogs on a winning note with a 2:30 pin over Cole Martz.
