Record-Setting Rout For Peshtigo They just keep on winning and winning.
Like 3-plus seasons worth!
And the streak has now reached a record 46 straight M-O Conference victories following a 74-12 thrashing of winless Lena Tuesday night. Peshtigos winning ways have now surpassed the previous conference mark of 45 straight set by Wausaukee from 1965-68 under the direction of coach Tom Wilkins.
The Bulldog streak started with 4 league wins to close out the 2010 season, followed by consecutive 16-0 campaigns in 2011 and 2012, and 10 straight this year. That streak should continue with Peshtigos lone potential road block being a January 31 date in Suring.
Suring improved to 10-1 in league play with a 70-30 rout of Coleman and 60-46 over Oconto County rival Gillett.
Third place Niagara continues to turn heads with two more impressive wins. Coach Jim Hooglunds troops topped Lena 65-35 then clobbered Crivitz in a 59-27 road win.
Now 10-0 in M-O play and 14-1 overall, Peshtigo will entertain Crivitz on Thursday before starting preparations for that showdown in Suring.
Other games slated for January 24 find Coleman visiting STAA, Wausaukee heading to Gillett and Niagara visiting Suring.
-Fridays Results-
Suring Sails Past
Coleman 70-30
The high flying Eagles put this game away by halftime in routing visiting Coleman 70-30. Suring opened the game with a 25-6 surge then tacked on a 20-10 second period blitzing to take control.
Jay Tienor fired in 17 points to lead Suring, including 7 in the first period. Dan Sweda added 16 points and two treys while Cody Christensen chipped in with 15 points, 11 of those coming in the first half.
Dominick Hansen and Blake Margis netted 8 and 7 points for Coleman.
Niagara Races
Past Lena 65-35
Jordan Zawada paced a quartet of cagers in double figure scoring as Niagara raced past host Lena 65-35.
Zawada finished the night with 18 points, 10 coming in the first half, while Zach Walker added 14, Joey Swanson and Colin Anderson 11 each.
Niagara put this game away early, claiming a 42-16 halftime edge. Walker tallied 11 of his 14 points in the second quarter and Zawada 8 as the Badgers unloaded a 28-6 scoring surge.
The Badger offense continued to attack in period three by a 15-6 run, highlighted by 8 more points from Zawada.
Justin Heimke topped Lena with 14 points, 9 in the fourth quarter and Matt Marquardt scored 10.
Niagara won the jayvee game 47-11.
Balanced Scoring Sends
Rangers Past Cavaliers
With 4 players producing 8 points or more, the Wausaukee Rangers used a 17-6 third quarter run to turn back visiting STAA 59-45.
Wausaukee had its share of problems early as the Cavaliers used 8 first quarter points by Kiefer Powers to claim a 16-14 lead. Powers struck for 6 more in the second quarter but the Rangers used a 19-13 surge to pry open a 33-29 lead. Senior guard Ryan Nystrom shook free for 7 of his 10 points in the frame while James Kramer and Aaron Schlies added 5 points each.
Keeping the scoring pedal to the metal in the third frame, Wausaukee went on a 17-6 spurt to pry open a 50-35 lead. Kramer dented the Cavalier defense for 9 points, Sawyer Wallace 4 and Beau DeLaet three.
Zach Orlando added some fourth quarter punch with all 4 of his points as STAA tried to rally with a 10-9 edge. Jameson Bardowski drilled a three for the Cavvies and Mike Schmidt added 3 points.
Kramer paced the Rangers with 21 points, Schlies added 11, Nystrom 10 and Wallace 8.
The Cavaliers saw Powers tally 14 of his 16 points in the first half and was held scoreless in period three. Bardowski added 8 points and Mitchell Harvey 7 for the Cavaliers.
Wausaukee made it a clean sweep with a 47-27 win in the jayvee game.
Crivitz Edges
Gillett 53-47
The Wolverines found themselves in a dogfight with Gillett Friday at the end of three quarters, down by just two points 28-26.
They needed a strong fourth quarter and that is exactly what they got as the home team picked up 27 points in the final eight minutes, sparked largely by a scoring binge from Jake Wiedemeier, to finish the game ahead of Gillett by a final of 53-47.
For Crivitz, opening up the six-point gap it enjoyed by the games end didnt come easy at all. The Wolverines found themselves in foul trouble early in the quarter with Gillett in bonus territory and heading to the line for an opportunity at points with each whistle.
Wiedemeier kept the Wolverines close to the Tigers through the quarters opening minutes, scoring all of his teams points over a span of play that saw the Tigers go from a 30-26 lead to a slim 32-30 advantage.
Free throws took the Tigers to 34-31 but Crivitzs Ben Fischer turned in a three-point play on a tough play inside plus a free throw to tie it up at 34. Wiedemeier gave the Wolverines a temporary lead at 37-36 with a three pointer next but Gillett responded with a bucket to get ahead by one. Up next were two plays that proved to be the difference makers for the Crivitz cagers. Wiedemeier notched another field goal with a tough drive to the basket, making it 39-38, Crivitz.
Up next was Colton Lange, who shook his defender with a sweet hesitation move before going to the bucket for two, getting the home crowd on its feet with the crafty play and drawing a timeout from the Gillett bench.
Gillett couldnt recover.
Fischer scored on yet another hotly contested basket down low after the timeout thanks to a precision entry pass by AJ Garcia from the top of the key. The Wolverines were on their way to victory from there as they began to consistently beat the Gillett press and maintain the upper hand.
Wiedemeier led all scorers with 18; Lange had 13 and Garcia rounded out the Crivitz top scorers with eight.
Gillett got 17 each from Shane Anderson and Long in the loss.

Bulldogs Batter Lena
For 46th Straight Win
The talented Bulldogs continue to get things done on both ends of the court in hammering host Lena 74-12 and a record 46th straight conference win.
Defensively, Peshtigo held the winless Wildcats to just 5 points over the final 3 quarters, including none in the fourth period. On the offensive side of the ball, Peshtigo connected on 50% of its shots (33-66) and held a 49-14 rebounding edge. From behind the arc, Peshtigo hit on just 3 of 15 shots (20%).
A pair of junior standouts continue to lead the way as Jordan Berth had another huge performance with a double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds while Zach Neumann added 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Dakota Keller canned 10 points for the 11-player scoring attack, Gunner Kinney 9 while Matt Borkovec chipped in with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Peshtigo started strong and never let up after gaining a 23-7 first quarter lead. By halftime, coach Ryan Spaulding saw his troops own a 34-10 margin before closing out the game with a 40-2 second half surge.
Justin Heimke topped Lena with 6 points and 4 rebounds while Matt Marquardt added 3 points and 3 rebounds.
Peshtigo won the jayvee game 63-9 behind 12 points each from Jake Romenesko and Trevor Igl.
Long Range Shooting
Keys 60-46 Suring Win
Hitting 11 times from three point land, Suring knocked off visiting Gillett 60-46 to remain in second place in the league standings.
The Eagles saw long range bomber Dan Sweda connect on 7 shots from behind the arc and finish with a game high 25 points. Sweda fired in six 3s in the first half and added his 7th in the third frame.
Cody Christensen and Blake Strehlow tallied 11 points each for the winners, Dillon Kempen 10 and Jay Tienor 3.
Visiting Gillett rode the inside scoring of Shane Anderson (6 points) and Clint Long (5) to a surprising 17-12 first quarter lead.
Things turned favorable for Suring in period two as Sweda tallied 11 points while Strehlow, Kempen and Christensen netted 3 each for a 32-22 halftime lead.
Gillett went back to their big men inside and got within 46-39 after three frames before Suring closed out the win on a 14-7 run. Kempen fired in 7 points, including a trey, while Christensen hit for a pair of buckets.
Long topped Gillett with 13 points, Anderson added 12 and Kyle Kershek 11.
Gillett won the jayvee game 44-33.
Rangers Run
Past Coleman
The Rangers really took it to the visiting Cougars, running their neighbors from the south out of the gym to the tune of a 78-18 throttling.
Wausaukee was led by 20 points from James Kramer, followed by Aaron Schlies with 12 and 10 from Ryan Nystrom.
Coleman, which managed only six points in the first half compared to 50 from the Rangers, was paced by Dominic Hansen (11).
Slow Start Sinks
Wolverines 59-27
The Crivitz cagers had trouble getting out of the gate at home against Niagara on Tuesday night, stumbling out of the blocks for a 19-2 performance in the opening quarter on its way to a 59-27 loss to the Badgers in M-O play.
Ben Fischer turned in a respectable game with 14 points to lead the way for Crivitz but it wasnt enough as Niagara picked up 16 from Jordan Zawada, 13 from Zach Walker and 11 from Joey Swanson.
