Area Teams Receive High Tourney Seeds

A number of area boys basketball teams were awarded high seeds for the WIAA tournament play which begins on Tuesday, February 19.
In the Division 3 bracket, Peshtigo was given a number two seed while in Division 5 Wausaukee earned a one seed, Suring and Niagara the second slot.
The D-2 field will find Marinette (9) traveling to Menasha (8) in their opening game with that winner taking on top seed Pulaski on Friday, Feb. 22.
The D-2 field is loaded with top teams as Seymour is second, West DePere third and Ashwaubenon 4th.
In Division 3, Peshtigo earned the two seed and will host the winner of Winneconnne (7) and Wittenberg-Birnamwood (10) on Feb. 22. One other local team, Oconto Falls (12) heads to Freedom for an opening clash.
We get a first round bye and hope we can build on our success and experience of last year to step up to the D-3 challenge. Once tourney play starts, we wont be able to afford any slow starts and must come ready to play, Peshtigo coach Ryan Spaulding said.
The top seed in D-3 is Little Chute, which is currently ranked number one in the state, Appleton Xavier is third and Fox Valley Lutheran 4th.
Opening round matchups in D-4 find Crivitz (4) hosting Gillett (5) with that winner heading to top seed Crandon on Feb. 22.
Elsewhere Oconto (3) entertains Menominee Indian (6) and Coleman (7) visits Laona-Wabeno (2).
Wausaukee is the number one seed in the top half of the D-5 sectional and welcomes White Lake (8) in the opening round with the winner meeting the Elcho (4) and Goodman-Pembine (5) victor. Niagara is the number two seed and hosts Phelps (7) while Florence (6) heads to Three Lakes (3).
In the bottom half of the D-5 sectional, Suring (2) hosts Sevastopol (15) while STAA (11) visits Gresham (6). Talented NEW Lutheran is the number one seed in the lower half with Sheboygan Lutheran 3rd and Hilbert fourth.
The sectional semifinals are slated for Thursday, February 28 with the finals on Saturday, March 2.
The state tournament will be held March 7-9 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
