Teresa A. Smits, 52, of Freedom passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born on Nov. 24, 1960 in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Merle and Rosemary (Berglin) Geyer, she married Michael Smits on March 22, 1986 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Green Bay.
She was employed at McCain Foods for 14 years until her health forced her to retire. She enjoyed the time at the family cottage on Lake La Fave and was an avid reader and Sudoku puzzle solver. She loved to travel, especially to sunny vacation spots during the winter and was a loyal and avid Packer fan. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Mike; a daughter, Jessica Smits of Freedom; a son, Sam Smits of Little Chute; one grandson; her siblings, Roseanne (Dave) Brehmer and Lynn (Andy) Reed, both of Oconto Falls, Peggy (Dave) Bettis of Sobieski, Merle, jr. (Jackie) Geyer of Appleton and Jeff (Sandy) Geyer of De Pere; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Marlene Smits of Green Bay; two sisters-in-law, Laurie (Jeff) Delvaux of Altoona, Io. and Ellen Thuerwachter of Green Bay and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Matthew Smits.
The funeral liturgy will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom with Fr. Dan Felton officiating. Inurnment will take place at the parish cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends directly at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
