Two New Members Seated On Stephenson Plan Commission

Two new members, Chad Poehls and Leon Popp, were seated on the Town of Stephenson Plan Commission at their regular monthly meeting Thursday, Feb. 21. The next Plan Commission meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Stephenson Town Hall on County X west of Crivitz.

Members present for the half hour meeting on Feb. 21, in addition to Poehls and Popp, were Larry Engebos, Wilton Carvenaugh, Jim Liska, Chair Dave Anderson and Secretary Elaine Olson. Town Chair John Konopacki, who also is an appointed member of the commission, was absent. Two members of the public were on hand but neither offered a public comment. There were no certified survey maps to consider, and aside from approving minutes, no other business was conducted.

In his chairman’s report Anderson said he wants discussion on some of the documents commission members need, including the town ordinance book, the 20-year compehensive plan, a “Village Powers for Towns” sheet, and an “Extension of Facts” sheet. He said he will forward these items as e-mails to commissioners who need them, along with check lists for development plans and other documents for which information is still being compiled.

Anderson said the Plan Commission Ordinance will need to be reviewed and updated, and said since Marinette County has accepted the State of Wisconsin’s shoreland zoning plan, commissioners will need to know how this affects the town.

Several committees will meet on Wednesday, March 6 in preparation for the monthly Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13.

The March 6 series of meetings begins at 7 p.m. with the Personnel and Finance Committee, which will discuss a request from Eagle River Union Airport to have the 2010 entitlement money assigned to them if the Town of Stephenson isn’t using it for the local airport. Also on the agenda are discussion on a consolidated BAS agreement, insurance quotes and cleaning service duties.

That meeting will be immediately followed by a meeting of the Road Committee, where there will be discussion on roads to be eliminated from the 2013 roadwork schedule and prioritizing roadwork. There will be discussion on all associated road work costs, as well as salt usage and plowing and on advertising for gravel crushing prices and proposals.

The Ordinance and Public Safety Committee will then be convened to discuss Ordinance 2-3-13 and the resignation of Water Safety Patrol officers. The full town board, at its meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 9 had voted to discontinue paying mileage reimbursement to Water Patrol Officers from their homes to the point where they start their water patrol duties in the Town of Stephenson. Most of the Water Patrol officers live in or near the City of Marinette.
