THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Velda Mae Wontor, 87, of Crivitz, formerly of Amberg, died early Monday, March 4 at NewCare Residence, in Crivitz.
Born in Beecher on Sept. 24, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Lora (Frye) Schaffer, she married Andrew Wontor on April 27, 1946.
For many years the couple ran a car repair business in Amberg. She was a charter member of the Mullaney-McTrusty American Legion Auxiliary Unit 428. She loved conversation, enjoyed camping and was a wonderful cook.
She is survived by her son, Robert (Diane) Wontor; one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at Messar-Roubal Funeral Home in Wausaukee. Friends called at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment was in the Amberg Cemetery.
