UW-Marinette Cagers Shine In WCC All-Star Tilt
Five members of the UW-Marinette Buccaneers basketball teams took part in the annual Wisconsin Collegiate Conference all-star game Sunday at the Max E. Peterson Fieldhouse in Marinette.
Playing for the East Conference womens team were Lindsey Krajewski and Melissa Stone while Jonte Wells, Aaron Pettit and Josh Corry were selected to the mens squad.
In the womens clash, the East gals pursed a 93-49, highlighted by a 54-22 second half scoring surge.
A pair of Waukesha cagers paced the East as Nicole Masterson of Waukesha tallied 17 points while Brittany Groer added 15. Sarah Olewinski, also of Waukesha, was selected as the games MVP with 11 points, 3 assists and 4 rebounds
Hitting on 4 of 9 shots, Krajewski totaled 10 points, hauled down a team high 14 rebounds while adding two steals, two blocked shots and two assists. Stone scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds during 18 minutes of playing time.
Top scorer and MVP for the West was Corine Meacham of Marshfield with 13 points and 3 steals. Carly Coleman of Richland added 11 points while Kaitlynn Mefferd of Marshfield netted 8.
East Squads Claims
124-107 Mens Victory
With 8 players totaling 8 points or better, the East ran to a 124-107 all-star victory Sunday. Trailing 60-58 at halftime, the East unloaded a 66-47 second half surge to take control.
Leading the East was MVP Jon Braeger of Fox Valley with 19 points on 7-15 shooting, Aaron Pettit of Marinette added 16 points and 5 rebounds, Jim Marose of Waukesha and Xavier Fletcher of Manitowoc 13 points each.
Marinettes Jonte Wells finished with 10 points and 2 steals while Josh Corry added 9 points.
The MVP for the West was David Harper of Rock with 23 points and 5 rebounds, Cain Trunkel of Marshfield added 19 points, Murdock Smith of Barron 15 points, Daryl Stewart of Richland 14 and Riley Kannel of Barron 10 points.
At All-Star Game
Prior to the WCC all-star game, a dunk contest and a three point shootout were held.
Winners in the dunk contest were first place Jim Marose, Waukesha and second to Ryan McDermott of Barron.
The womens 3 point contest winners were first place Sara Olewinski, Waukesha and second place to Carly Coleman of Marathon.
Mens 3-point shooting was won by Jon Braeger of Fox Valley with Murdock Smith of Barron second.
Womens most valuable players were Sara Olewinski, Waukesha (East) and Corine Meacham of Marshfield.
In the mens game, East MVP went to Jon Braeger of Fox Valley and David Harper of Rock (West).
