Area Track Teams Open Indoor Season
Theyre off and running...indoors only!
No matter what Mother Nature continues to dump outside, four area track teams took part in the Oshkosh High School Invitational on Thursday, March 14 inside the Kolf Center.
Peshtigo totaled 13 points claimed a 13th place finish in the 25-team Division 2 meet while Oconto Falls was 23rd with 2.
Freedom won the team title with 82 points followed by Little Chute 79, Seymour 62, Xavier 43 and Omro 31.
Top finishers for Peshtigo were Levi Sanborn 4th in the 60 meter hurdles at 9:19 and 13th in the long jump at 17-11.75, Zack Neumann 3rd in the shot put 471.50 and Jordan Berth 7th 421.0, Tyler Nault 9th at 3200 in 10:54.69, Andy Jornlin 30th in the 800 meters (2:27.77), Khalid Eljack 45h 1600 (5:41.69) and Bryce Trimberger 46th in 1600 (5:42.19).
The Peshtigo 800 relay team put together a 14th place clocking of 1:43.24.
After nursing a hamstring injury for most of last spring, the Bulldogs were looking for a successful start from senior sprinter Brad Neumann. It didnt happen that way. Despite winning the 60 meter prelims in 7:05, Neumann pulled his hamstring near the finish line and is currently day-to-day.
Top performers for Oconto Falls were Hunter Reed 8th place in the 400 meter dash 55.82 and Alex Young 17th (57.72), James Malcheski 31st in the 800 at 2:28.17, Mike Friedman 8th in the 1600 (4:57.44), Liam Spillane 16th 3200 (11:34.40), Cole Wescott 21st shot put 3901, 800 relay 13th and 1600 relay 9th.
Suring Shines In
Showcasing their talent and depth, the Suring Eagles notched a runner-up finish in D-3 with 77 points while Gillett was 7th at 31.33 in the 15-team meet.
St. Marys Spring of Fond du Lac captured team honors with 118 total points.
Jay Tienor brought home second place finishes in the 400 meters (53.99) and high jump (510) while claiming third in the 60 meter dash at 7.50.
Cody Christensen added plenty of points with a second place in the 60 meter hurdles (9.29) and long jump (192.5) and sixth in the triple jump (379.75), Blake Strehlow third in the high jump (58) and 4th in the shot put (415.5), Luke Runge 4th in the 60 hurdles 9.70 and 4th in the pole vault 90, Caleb Gleffe 5th in the shot put 393 and Sam Schaal 6th at 389.50.
The Suring 1600 relay team claimed third at 3:52.46 while the 800 relay was 7th at 1:49.10.
Gillett had a pair of individual winners as Shane Anderson pocketed the 800 in 2:08.46 while Clint Long threw the shot put 442.50 for first place.
Other Gillett points came from Colin Weise 6th in the 3200 at 11:35.28, Mat Peterson 6th 60 hurdles 10.46, Jacob Kaster and Alex Zeitler 7th and 8th in the high jump (52 and 50) while Aaron Smith was 7th in the shot put at 379.
The Gillett 800 relay team was 9th at 1:50.31 and 1600 relay squad 8th at 4:07.84.
Marinette Boys 3rd At
WDP Invitational, Girls
Finish In Fourth Place
Getting the indoor season started on Tuesday, the Marinette Marine boys notched a third place finish at the 4-team meet while the girls were last.
Host West DePere won the boys portion with 104.5 points followed by Denmark 41, Marinette 31 and Wrightstown 26.5.
First place winners for the Marines were Jaden Boivin in the pole vault 131, Dustin Valind shot put 510 and Dakota Vanidestine in the 200 (25.3) while Gage Raminger was second in the 400 at 58.5.
The girls meet also went to West DePere with 65 points, Wrightstown had 60.5, Denmark 49.5 and Marinette 36.
Marinette freshman Lynsee Bohan claimed the 200 in 29.9, high jump 410 and was runner-up in the 55 meter dash at 8.0.
Megan Wagner hurled the shot to a winning distance of 321.5.
