Marinette Boys Claim 5 Golds, Peshtigo Girls Register A Pair

Defending Champ

Neumann 2nd In

100 And 200 Meters

Local track teams will be well represented in Thursday’s Division 2 sectional in Little Chute as the Peshtigo Bulldogs saw six individuals and three relay teams finish in the top four Monday in Regional action in Freedom. The Marinette Marines will be sending 10 individuals and a relay group for competition in Little Chute.

After a gut-wrenching foul put her out of contention in the shot put event, Peshtigo’s Amanda Emmes, dug in and handily won the discus with a throw of 111’4, quite a stretch in front of Oconto Falls thrower Julie Moore, who came in second with a toss of 98’4 to make the sectional cut along with teammate Carly Lemke.

Claiming a first-place finish as well as an M-O record in the high jump was Peshtigo’s Nicole Motkowski with a cleared height of 5’05. Lemke of Oconto Falls rounded out the top four advancing in that event with a height of 5’02.

The Bulldogs took third place in the girls 800 meter relay as Samantha Rauch, Saige Ruleau, Taylor Sodini and Anna Madsen posted a 10:22.8 and the grouping of Motkowski, Rauch, Ruleau and Madsen clocked a 4:26.84 to take third in the 400 meter relay.

For the Marinette girls, freshman Lynsee Bohan had a big day, taking a second place showing in the 100-meter dash followed by a third-place sprint in the 200. Olivia Alloy is on her way to Little Chute after a third-place leap in the triple jump event while sophomores Megan Wagner and Emily Conley will both be representing Marinette with second and third place finishes respectively in the shot put event.

Wagner also came in third to qualify for the discus.

Other Timesland qualifiers include, from Oconto Falls, Kayla Virtues in the shot put; freshman Alyssa Nelson long jump; pole vaulters Meghan Vandenack and Leah Kasten; Vandenack, Kali Erickson, Jenny Spang and Liza Lega 800 relay; Vanessa Van Den Elzen, Kasten, Spang and Leja 400; Van Den Elzen in the 300 and 100 meter hurdles; freshman Bailey Wolf with a first place finish in the 3200-meter run and a third place in the 1600 and finally, Megan Heller in the 400-meter dash. For Oconto, Tori Hipke moves on in the 400-meter dash.

Marinette Boys Claim

5 Regional Victories

The boys’ portion of the card was dominated by dramatic runs from the Marine and the Bulldog speedsters as Dakota Vanidestine and Brad Neumann squared off at the line for the quick sprint. Marinette’s Vanidestine defeated defending state champion Neumann of Peshtigo in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 11 seconds flat next to Neumann’s second-place time of 11.29 seconds. Neumann will also be competing in the 200-meter run after his 23.25 time landed him a second-place finish.

Peshtigo’s Aaron Bhatoya took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.49 to advance.

Taking fourth for Peshtigo in the 800 relay dash were Levi Sanborn, Trevor Igl, Colin Hass and Jake Romenesko.

Rounding out those progressing for the Marine boys, Dustin Valind took first place in the discus as well as the shot put; Jaden Boivin was the day’s top pole vaulter while Boivin, Zach Campbell, Colton Dessart and Dakota Vanidestine finished first in the 4x100 relay.

Moving on from Oconto Falls was the 4x400 as well as the 800 meter relay team of James Malcheski, Alex Young, Michael Fifield and Hunter Reed in addition to Fifield in the high jump.

Tourney Tune-Up

In a 5-team pre-tournament meet, Peshtigo swept both ends of the home co-ed classic Thursday.

The girls piled up 103 points to top Gillett 97.33, Coleman 59, Wabeno 47 and Lena-STAA 44.66.

Leading the Peshtigo girls were victories by Taylor Sodini in the 800 (2:45.61), 1600 relay (4:31.13), 3200 relay(10:21.88) and Amanda Emmes shot put (34’8).

Lena-STAA had a pair of double winners as Marlena Wagner captured the 100 and pole vault while Megan Rouer came in first for the 200 and high jump.

Boys results saw the Bulldogs total 75 points, Coleman 73.75, Gillett 70, Wabeno 61.5 and Lena-STAA 60.75.

Levi Sanborn won the 110 and 300 hurdles while also running a leg on on the first place 800 relay team (1:38.73). Other Bulldog wins came from freshman Jake Romenesko in the 100 meter dash (11.96), Aaron Bhatoya 800 2:03.04 and freshman Tyler Nault 3200 10:58.07
