Wickman Repeats As MVP

Sara Wickman 's numbers for the 2013 campaign speak for themselves. In conference play, the newly crowned M-O Player of the Year sported a blistering .613 average at the plate for Sue Stoltenberg 's 9-1 Wausaukee Rangers. She cranked three home runs and tallied a team-high 22 runs batted in with five doubles, 11 singles and a triple. Such is the cumulative stat sheet for a two-time conference Player of the Year.

"Sara has had a tremendous career at Wausaukee High," said coach Stoltenberg. "She 's been a force in the infield and a dominating player at the plate. Sara is the ultimate softball player and the program thanks her very much for her dedication and tough play. She will be missed next year."

Other accolades for the graduating Ranger include being selected to the starting unit on the Wisconsin Fastpitch Coaches Association All District Team and she 'll also play in the WFCA Senior All-Star Game.

Joining Wickman as a unanimous selection on the M-O first team is pitcher Lauren Edlbeck, who hurled 56 innings for Wausaukee this year as a junior. She fanned 80 batters and walked just 15 over the course of her team 's effort in 2013, a year in which the Rangers shared the conference 's top spot along with the Peshtigo Bulldogs (9-1).

"Lauren 's dominating play in the circle had much to do with our team 's success this year. Her hard work and pure determination to have a productive season for the Lady Rangers speaks volumes about her work ethic and passion for the game. She is an outstanding softball player and will look to close out her high school career next season in dominating fashion as well," Stoltenberg added.

Lights-out from the mound, Edlbeck was equally strong on offense. She batted .419 for the year with nine singles, four doubles and a triple while bringing 13 runs across for Wausaukee.

Edlbeck was also selected to be a member of the WFCA all-district team.

Selected to the M-O second team this year from Wausaukee were Kaylor DeLaet, a sophomore infielder; junior infielder Crysta Clark as well as sophomore outfielder Veronica Shaw.

Junior Morgan Zeutzius was an honorable mention pick.

For the Peshtigo girls, junior Mazie Reif 's overwhelming mound outings this year landed her a spot on the first team. Reif finished with a 9-1 record for the Bulldogs with 62 strikeouts while helping her own efforts inside the circle by hitting .325 with an on base percentage of .825. Reif scored 20 runs for Peshtigo in 2013.

Fundamentally sound and very strong on defense, senior Jen Harris was .906 fielding and her on base percentage was .500. Taylor Romenesko, also a senior and a team leader hit for .364 with a .667 on base percentage and .883 in the field.

Senior Shannen Ganter, one of the team 's most improved players of the year made the first team as an outfielder with a .379 batting average and an on base percentage of .621. Joining Ganter in the outfield will be junior Kelly Staudenmaier with a .500 OBP and a .324 average at the plate for Peshtigo.

The Bulldog girls had a pair of players making it to the second team as sophomore Carlee Mylener, an up-and-coming player for coach Tom Christensen 's team, got enough votes thanks to a .319 batting average, .532 OBP and 21 runs scored. Junior outfielder Jaden Russell hit for .378 and scored 17 runs with a .662 OBP to round out Peshtigo 's picks.

The Bulldogs ' most improved player of 2013, senior Abbi Fredrickson was picked as an honorable mention.

The Crivitz Wolverines landed a pair of players onto the starting team with senior Brittany Gorman as an infielder and fellow senior Hope Heider will back her up as an outfielder. The Wolverines also send a pair to the second team as sophomore pitcher Amanda Pickett was picked alongside her catcher, fellow sophomore Jen Kempka.

Courtney Weddel, a Crivitz junior, was named honorable mention.

Janae Engels, a senior for the Coleman Cougars, was picked as the starting catcher while junior outfielder Asphin Ruiz was on the second team along with Brooke Pashek, a junior infielder. Mckenzie Kostreva made honorable mention.

Other Timesland players making the team include: first team utility player Carla Woodke of Gillett, a junior; second team infielder Rebecca Schroeder a senior from Gillett; Vanessa Hanrahan of Lena/STAA a junior infielder on the second team; second team utility player Kayla Boye, a sophomore at Lena/STAA as well as honorable mentions Brittany Fetterly, a freshman from Gillett and Kayla VanLanen, a junior for Lena/STAA.
