Sheriff Details Events In Pound Shootings

The names of two men involved in shootings in the late evening of July 1 in the Town of Pound were announced by Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve as well as a time table leading to the end of a three hour incident that began at 10:09 p.m. July 1 ending at 1:13 a.m. July 2.

Dead are Tyler S. Walk, 26, Marinette who was shot by Manfred M. Eisenheim, 76, N3087 N. 5th Road, Pound.

The incident began at 10:09 a.m. July 1 when Walker called 911 to report an armed suspicious person, Eisenheim, outside a cabin owner by Walk’s aunt and uncle on N. 5th Road. The call recorded a sound like gunfire.

At 10:16 p.m. a second 911 call was received from residents on N. 5th Road that a vehicle had crashed into their house and garage.

At 10:23 p.m. the first deputy arrived at the residence and seven minutes later a second deputy came. Found in the vehicle was Walk who had been shot. Walk was taken to BAMC and transferred to a Green Bay Hospital where he died from a single gunshot wound.

Investigation led deputies to a maroon SUV as a suspect vehicle. It was found in the Eisenheim driveway, just south of the cabin where the incident started.

At 11:07 p.m. the Marinette County Special Response Team (SRT) was activated and neighbors from the area were evacuated. An armored car from the Brown County Sheriff Department was called and meanwhile the SUV with Eisenheim inside with a gun was under surveillance.

At 12:52 a.m. the armored car pinned the Eisenheim vehicle. The armored car puts lights on the SUV and revealed presence of Eisenheim. At 12:54 a.m. Eisenheim tried to access a weapon but put it down. A shot gun and pistol were observed.

At 1 a.m. Eisenheim locked the vehicle doors and at 1:O4 a.m. pepper spray was deployed at him by deputies. Multiple commands were given to Eisenheim to surrender but he did not comply. At 1:13 a.m. shots were fired by three deputies after Eisenheim pointed a firearm at them. The shots killed Eisenheim.

As per standard procedure, the three deputies, Robert Amundson, Jesse Parker and Steven Schmidt are put on administrative leave. Their actions to determine proper procedures in the use of force were followed will be made by the Department of Justice and report sent to the District Attorney. Sheriff Sauve will be informed of the results and said he is confident the three deputies followed proper procedures and will return to duty shorty.

It was reported Eisenheim may have suffered from a mental illness but authorities were never informed of any problems or other incidents. He lived alone and never married.

It is unknown why Walk went to the cabin on the evening of July 1 and why Eisenheim was on the property.

Walk was involved in youth softball and baseball and was an umpire. He was also a member of the M&O Conference Officials Association as a football referee. A 2004 graduate of Marinette High School, he was a student at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton and was employed at Waupaca Foundry. The Marinette Co-ed Softball League held a special game Sunday, July 7 in his memory. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6, in Marinette and a Tyler Walk Memorial Fund has been set up at Stephenson National Bank & Trust, Marinette.
