THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Eugene E. Steeno, 80, of Niagara passed away at his home on Friday, July 5 with his family by his side.
Born July 13, 1932 in Niagara, son of the late Eugene and Sophie (Kmit) Steeno, he was a lifelong resident of Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. He married Marilyn Opolka of Vulcan on Oct. 19, 1957.
After graduation he served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was an Aviation Metal Smith and Hydraulics Mechanic on Navy aircraft carriers, including the Bennigton, Ty Conderoga, Coral Sea and Antietam. After his discharge from the Navy he returned to Niagara where he worked at the Niagara Paper Mill for 45 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed visiting neighbors and friends, making firewood for the winter and deer hunting. He was a Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter.
His wife, Marilyn survives, along with a son, Richard (Ruth) Steeno of Niagara. He is further survived by one granddaughter, two step-granddaughters, a sister-in-law, brother-in-law and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Private family graveside services will be held. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara. Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel is assisting the family.
