Harvey S. Kamps, 80, of Coleman passed away on Tuesday July 23, after a lengthy illness.
Born on Sept. 16, 1932 to Louis and Elsie (Behnke) Kamps, he attended Evergreen School and graduated from Lena High School in 1951. He married Sharon Smith on June 6, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church, Peshtigo.
He was a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes for several seasons, worked at Harnischfeger in Milwaukee, logged with his older brother Louis and also worked at Thompson Boats in Peshtigo before finding his true passion in farming. He served on the Elm Dairy Cheese Plant board and was active in the Farm Bureau for many decades. He also served on the board for the Town of Pound. He loved being a part of the Behnke Family Reunion committee. A member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Grover, he was on the church council.
His wife of 54 years, Sharon survives, along with eight children, Kelly Wengerter (Don), Kay Kamps, Mark Kamps (Eunice), Colleen Bushmaker (Ron), Carrie King (special friend Chad), David Kamps (Beth), Judy Ducaine (Mark) and Jean Zielinski (Tony); 22 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. He is further survived by brothers and sisters, Louis (Dorothy), Raymond (Rose), Leland (Joan), Gerald (Sally), Roland (Sue), Elsie (Sandy) Sandelin, Hilbert (Janice), Ruth List and Rita (Eddie) Van Sliedricht; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Kamps; a sister and brother-in-law, Bud and Ann (Smith) Lemke and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leland and Margaret Smith; a son, Brian; a granddaughter, Cassie Konitzer; a sister, Irene Huettner; two brothers, Verlin and Harold; three sisters-in-law, Marlene, Beverly and Lenore and a brother-in-law, Richard List.
Visitation will be held at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grover on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Pastor Charles Learman will officiate and burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home, Peshtigo is assisting the family with arrangements.
