THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Peshtigo Gets $139,997 For Energy Saving Efforts
Issue Date: July 24, 2013
The energy saving efforts of the City of Peshtigo reaped a $139,997 check presented at a meeting Wednesday, July 17. It was presented by Focus on Energy, Wisconsins statewide program for energy efficiency and renewable energy, along with Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS). The incentive check followed the completion of a boiler upgrade at City Hall, and Fine Bubble Aerator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The citys energy saving effort will save nearly $81,000 annually in energy costs.
The City of Peshtigo has a long standing history of working with Focus on Energy on projects, such as the upgraded lighting system at City Hall. Beyond completing standardized projects, the city is taking advantage of special Focus on Energy programs like the WPS Schools and Government Program, a current offer that promotes innovative energy reduction through advanced efficiency equipment retrofits. Additionally, Peshtigo was a recipient of a competitive $25,000 grant that was offered by WPS for energy efficiency projects.
By completing these projects, the City of Peshtigo will save more than 128 Demand kW, 1,148,161 kilowatt-hours of electricity, and 1,197 Therms - enough energy to power 117 homes for one year.
In these tight economic times, anything the city can do to save taxpayer dollars is very important, said Allan Krizenesky, Mayor for the City of Peshtigo As a city, we could not carry out these projects without the help, knowledge and assistance of Focus on Energy. An added benefit is that these projects will also conserve natural resources and preserve the environment in the long run.
Not only do these upgrades save energy and money, but theyre also environmentally friendly. The annual environmental benefits are equivalent to offsetting 2,277 barrels of oil from being burned and removing 186 cars off the road - eliminating more than 1,956,765 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the atmosphere.
Focus on Energy can help residents across the state identify and evaluate energy-saving opportunities in their homes and businesses, provide specific recommendations, develop energy management plans, and arrange technical training opportunities about energy conservation.
