Lillian Lil Belongia, 91, Lena, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Aug. 12,
Born on Oct. 27, 1921 to Anna and Elmer Kosnar, she graduated from Lena High School in 1939 and married Ernest Eli Belongia on Oct. 8, 1942 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2006.
She worked at the Postal Service in Lena, Cashway Grocery Store and the Bloodmobile. The couple owned and operated the Belongia Hotel and Bar in Lena until retiring in 1977. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Altar Society, loved watching the Brewers and could tell you the stats for each player. She enjoyed watching the Packers, playing cards in a weekly club, bowling, spending time with her great-grandchildren and watching her grandsons sporting events. Most recently, she really enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by son, Larry Belongia, Lena; a daughter Bonnie (Wayne Ferd) Shallow, Lena; four grandsons; three great-grandsons; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Allen Kosnar of Lena and Roman (Dorothy) Kosnar of Green Bay and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Eli and her parents. Pallbearers are Jon Shallow, Mark Shallow, Rich Shallow, Joe Shallow, Steve Kosnar and Mark Janus. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday Aug. 16 at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Lena, with a parish wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial service at 10:30 a.m. at St. Annes Catholic Church, Lena Father Joseph Nsereko officiating. Internment will be at St. Charles Cemetery, Lena.
