Peshtigo Historical Day Sept. 7 Parade, Events, Firemen’s Breakfast

The 2013 Peshtigo Historical weekend is almost here. The fun starts on Saturday, Sept. 7, and ends with the annual Peshtigo Firemen’s Breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Food, refreshments and fun will be offered most of the day in Badger Park on Saturday, and admission to the park is free.

The popular 27th annual City of Peshtigo Firefighters breakfast is Sunday, Sept. 8 with serving from 7 a.m. to noon in the Multi-Purpose Room of Peshtigo High School. Adults are $6.50 and children ages 7 to 12 years are $4.50. Those six and under are free.

The parade begins at 10:30 a.m., with lineup starting at 9:30 a.m. Event planners anticipate 50 to 79 units will take part. The parade starts on French Street (Highway 41), turns onto Emery Ave. and ends in front of the Peshtigo Elementary School. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Peshtigo Chamber website or by contacting the parade dictator, Kris Karpowicz, 715-582-0184.

The weekend begins with the 24th annual Peshtigo Fire Tower Run/Walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Bulldog Stadium adjoining Badger Park and across from peshtigo Elementary Learning Center.

Participants in the Run /Walk activities can choose from three different events, a 10K run, 5K run or 5K walk. Entry fee is $15 for early registration or $20 on the day of the race. Race day registration will take place from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Both the 10K run and the 5K run/walk start in front of Bulldog Stadium. Volunteers attend the well-marked course, with time splits given at each mile marker. The 10K (6.2 miles) course follows along the Peshtigo River, through wooded trails to paved country roads and returns to the stadium where a lap around the track completes the event.

The 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk course also follows along the river, circling back around Badger Park, and finishes inside the stadium. Registration forms can be picked up at Lee’s Family Foods or go onto Facebook and search Peshtigo Fire Tower Run. The $20 registration fee will continue this week and will guarantee an event shirt.

There will be numerous bouncer rides for children as well as other activities from noon to early evening, and unlimited rides with wristband purchase. For older groups there will be a mechanical bull, bungie jumping, and space ball. Kiddy Land for the age group of 4 and under will be set up. Prices are $10 for bracelets and $5 for a bracelet for the 4 and under group. Event tickets are 50 cents and some will require more than one ticket.

Craft booths will be set up both inside and outside of the Peshtigo Elementary Learning Center. Items are homemade, knitted, crocheted, quilted, including jewelry, purses, blankets, etc. Also, wood crafts, Fall decorations, yard decorations, Avon, Tupperware, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Lia Sophia Jewelry, Arbonne Products, Park Lane Jewelry, Pampered Chef products, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy Wickless Candles, Watkins, home-grown vegetables and more.

A huge model railroad display will be set up in the Peshtigo Elementary Cafeteria. Cans For Kids will sponsor Merlaine The Magician, who will face paint, do magic tricks, balloon art and entertain children during the parade and throughout the day.

Music by Music Jar is 3 to 6 p.m. and music by Suns of Memphis from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

For the horseshoe tournament contact Dave Zahn at Peshtigo City Hall for entry forms or on day of event. Registration the day of the event starts after the parade, at approximately 1 p.m. Cost is $10 per person team double elimination and all entry fees returned to top three place winners.

Food booths, open all day, will provide a variety of food and refreshments. Peshtigo Lions Club will sell hamburgers, hot dogs and bratwurst; Peshtigo Chamber - booyah; Peshtigo Woman’s Club - pork noodle sauerkraut hot dish, and nachos supreme; Boy Scouts - curly French fries, gyros; Moose Lodge - elephant ears; and Kiwanis - kettle korn.

The Peshtigo Historical Committee Beer Booth will be manned by Jeff Loomis, Daryl Joy, Jim Wortner and wives and volunteers.
